What's new

Is this a good brush?

I'm looking at getting a slightly better brush than my $10 omega boar brush.
I fancy something a little softer and that will spread a smooth thick lather.

But I can't justify spending a fortune on one just yet as I'm just starting out in wet shaving and have ordered a lot of stuff to set me up.
So with that. Is this a good brush for the price?

Anything better for similar money?

Thank you

It looks like a pure badger brush to me, but I could be wrong on that as its not listed. If I was going to spend $50 I would go with a Penworks Finest. They are soft, have good enough backbone, but are not the densest brushes. Just make sure you go a couple mm shorter on the loft than you normally (this will simulate beefing up the density) would and it will do nicely.

For a low cost brush IMHO you won't beat a well made custom with a 24mm TGN Finest 2 band xtra stuffed bulb set at 40-46mm or a 22mm TGN Super Silvertip set at 38-43mm.

Those Rasage brushes look like pure to me also, and thinly packed and lofty. Not something I'd look twice at.

Yeah, I think it's ok. But you might get a bigger bang for your buck if you went for a custom. I have 2 from Harvitz81 (Joe Edison) that are super, and 2 more coming. For the amount you are thinking of spending, I might PM Joe and see f he might have something that would suit you.

There are other B&B members who build brushes too. I simply havent dealt with anyone other than Joe.

Just a thought.

I just bought an Omega 10049 pro. It has good backbone and very soft tips. It makes applying lather a luxury. I like it so much I gave my good badger to my son. Don't give up on Omega or boar until you try this one and it will set you back less than fifteen bucks shipped from NTGuys on e-bay.

I'm in agreement with Loric.
Tony @ penworks puts out a fine product.
French "names" tend to add cost.

Scott, I would recommend this brush from Fendrihan...

It's a silvertip brush made for Fendrihan by a local artisan. It's a great brush for the money and is the equal of a more expensive brush that purchased. It also can be combined with a brush stand for about $5 more, which is currently on special...
