I have picked up my first meer. I don't really know anything about them. This one is actually carved in the shape of an old bearded man. The pipe kind of just caught my eye so I pulled the trigger. I was just curious what others thought about the carved meers!

I love the look of a lot of meers, I don't really like the ones with carved faces that much but there is so much selection that it is hard not to love them. The one I love the most was a long stemmed one with an Elk walking towards the bowl. There are also some really nice traditional shapes as well which I like same with the lace patterns that are out there.

There are a few out of them out there I have seen some on eBay but at a price that made my head spin.
I love the meerschaum pipes with the old man carved on the front. I own 3 and love them all!

I'm partial to skulls and traditional-looking calabash meers myself. if you like it, then smoke it and enjoy it when it arrives!

My only Meer (so far) has yet to arrive, but is plain. I would like to have some carved ones, but not too ornate. What ever suits your fancy. I do have a carved Briar Coglin with a bearded man wearing a hat, that I gave to my Dad as a present when I was a child that I keep primarily for sentimental reasons. He seemed to like it and it was in need of cleaning when I inherited it. So he must have smoked it often, back in the day.
I love the carved meers, along with the traditional ones. I just don't have the disposable income to feed the PAD. If you like it, then smoke it with pride, enjoy it!! I smoke corn cob pipes daily, and soometimes I'll get an akward glance or two but who really cares? They smoke great and I like them.

Not goofy at all. When I think "meerschaum" I envision carved either like an old bearded guys or like the women they used to put on the front of ships.
on edit: that reminds me of Poseidon or Neptune. Now that I think about it, most meerschaums (to me) seem to be nautically themed.
the goofy pipe looks great, the disney pipe looks goofy (want), I was looking into meers the other day and found some really cool ones with skulls and things like that on it, without being to goofy looking... but then i lost where i found them and have been trying to track them down again

I love and collect all things that are skulls. I'm also a full convert to pipes now. I will have to get some sort of carved skull pipe, even if it's wood and not meer...
