Is aftershave and overall skin conditioner?

I only started using aftershaves on a daily basis this winter. But when I did I noticed an immediate effect on my skin.

I lean toward oily skin, with soreness/redness especially during the cooler months on the sides and bridge of my nose.

When I started with Proraso pre-/post shave, the soreness went away immediately – far better than when I had used Eucerin and other creams. And when I started using other aftershaves like clubman, MR, Floid , etc., my skin remained clear.

Is this stuff a cure for red soreness?

Not always...usually balms are better for healing, and alcohol based aftershaves are more for disinfecting the skin,a good habit !.Many aftershaves contain a few essential oils and perhaps a drop of glycerine that also helps to soothe the skin.

I find that balms are effective for healing and AS definitely has more astringent/disinfectant properties... i would not consider an alcohol splash a moisturizer/conditioner.

I love the refreshing feeling of an alcohol based aftershave, but it dries my skin, so I follow it up with Thayers Witch Hazel with Aloe...although I must be an alco-shave-a-holic...I like the Thayers with alcohol, too.

I do the same, only in reverse. I use the Witch Hazel first then the Proraso aftershave.

I also use the Proraso pre/post shave cream prior to lathering. It seems to help dryness.
