Is a $27 Gillette Fatboy a good buy?

Can you rub it in a bit more? With over 750 posts under your belt I am pretty sure you know you got an awesome deal :001_tt2:

I don't know much about fatboys, in fact up until my joining date I had never heard of them. I know they are well liked but don't know much about price range for these. Hence my question.

I'm feeling bad about how you got took...SOOoo I will give you an even $30 so you can say you made a profit, and re-coop your cash...I just want to help...

really dude? did I get stiffed?:confused1

No you didn't. 27$ is a pretty good price considering what they're selling for. I have 2 Fatboys, one of which I scooped of the bay for a similar price. What you paid, is a better price than you could ever find on the B/S/T thread. There they tend to go for about $50 (uncased).

I think $27 is a good buy for an uncased Fatboy - particularly if it is in the condition you describe. The trick with all adjustables is the likelihood of some functional problem that may require tweaking always exists (stuck adjusters, stripped TTO, safety bar out of alignment, doors close unevenly, etc..)... I've had surprisingly bad luck acquiring Fatboys with undisclosed/unknown mechanical problems but have learned a lot about restoring all but the last to good working order. My latest was an eBay purchase with TTO door closure that sticks hard about 1/4 turn from closed and then snaps shut... sometimes evenly, sometimes not. I'm starting to think I've angered a shaving deity or should start buying lottery tickets on the hope of a bounceback in luck.

Post pics and/or your impressions of it's function once you get your new shaver and don't be dismayed if you end up needing to do some extra cleaning to get it tip-top for use, lots of good folks here to help. :)

I've been looking at trying a Fatboy and your BST seemed like a good price so I jumped at it. Looking forward to trying it.
Got really tired of trolling junk shops, antique shops and such looking for a Fatboy.
I really appreciate your posting one for a good price. Hope I can help some one out someday with a good deal on something they are looking for.
Karma wins every time. PIF.
Thanks:biggrin1:

My estimates were $35 to $40 for an uncased Fat Boy but with the recession ending and increased wet shaving interest now, who knows. Nice score, sir!
