iPod Touch and internet radio

I gave my wife a 3rd generation iPod Touch for our anniversary. It really is hers, I swear. But I am learning how to use it so I can teach her.

One of the free apps I downloaded this morning is HiDef Radio. It claims over 30,000 stations. I have the iPod docked to speakers and using our home WiFi I've been listening to several music stations for the last few hours. I'm really impressed with the sound quality and variety of choices. I may let my subscription to satellite radio lapse.

I have it on my Iphone 4

Impressive stuff

I have a similar app on my Iphone. It's called radio alarm. 30,00ish channels, and it also has an alarm clock built in. The cool thing is you can set it to wake you with any of the 30,000ish channels of your choice. And the alarm graphics look like an old- timey radio! sweet.

The WebOS catalog offers something similar I think. Ive never used it because I usually like to listen to Slacker or maybe Pandora, but maybe I'll check it out.

I like Pandora and Last.fm I upgraded to Pandora1 but recently it seems they are only playing highly licensed music even if you thumbs down every song bay an artist they keep playing new ones . If I wanted to listen to Vampire Weekend and Phenix I would just listen to pitchfork radio.

Last.fm seems better and less prone to train wrecks but they throw out some weird stuff some times.

dont let your satelittle subscription lapse.. You can also download the Sirius/XM app and listen to it through your ipod, as long as it is connected to a wifi network and you are a satellite radio subscriber.

Yes you could use the App to stream XM but be aware that their policy changed about 6 months ago. Streaming XM used to be free to subscribers but now you have to pay an additional fee. So you could stream XM but it will just cost you more money.

It's a fantastic service - I love it, too. I had thought about subscribing to a satellite service, but streaming is so much better.

I know, I'm reviving an old thread...

Well, I just found the apps for the radio. For $2.49 (AUD), I got TuneIn Radio. ~40,000 stations, very easy to use, bookmark option. I can browse by country, language, style of music, search the names, etc. Very good Apps IMO.

Been listening to a lot of reggae for the past couple of months, so was pretty disappointed to not see reggae listed in the "genres", I couldnt find a search box either.

Join me and Luc with the TuneIn Radio, its superb & it has a record feature built in. Also, if the radio websites are upto date you can go direct to their websites & see the d.j. schedules.

Oh and you can surf the net while listening to any of the shows as well.

I just downloaded Hidefradio based on this thread.
looks good.
I'll try tuninradio too when I get it back from the baby.
She loves playing with a painting app.

I like to download different AM news stations from other parts of the US and listen to them on my iPhone 4 at night. I find it helps me sleep. I used to be a big AM radio buff when I worked nights. Now it just puts me to sleep.
I also found on my iTunes (MacBook Pro) that there is a radio option and will let you stream radio stations.
