Interesting Tomo Nagura

I'm posting this because I think this Tomo is somewhat exceptional - and I'm baffled as to what layer it might be from.

Kita with some Nashiji, Su, and some Ke-Suji.

I suppose it could be a piece of Suita - given all the Su - but I'm not sure.
I know this sounds ridiculous - but it doesn't 'feel' like a piece of Suita.

The white fleks in the 1st pic is from dried slurry sitting in the Su.

The blushing red pattern is a nice visual - most Tomos I have are kind of boring.

Mostly - I like this one because it has a very nice texture in its slurry that I've not felt in another Tomo before.
The feel is exceptionally silky - it seems to be quite fast too.

Was sold/stamped as Nakayama. Skin is at least reminiscent of a Nakayama Kita I had a while back.

You have to look closely - there are fissures running in a number of places. I'm going to have to seal the sides on this.

The skin looks similar to my Nakayama Kiita but as you say it doesn't really look like others out there. Very interesting stone for sure!

Toishi is a whetstone.

Takeshi is a whetstone seller.

Takeshi says Nakayama Iromono.

The Su is the curveball - just looking for feedback here.

Su is funny - it can hide in layers beneath the top surface. You can lap down and Voila! the nest appears.
At least - that's what I've been told.

Anyhoo - the fact that you have no Su right now makes it a very cool Suita.

Su isn't a problem, unless you don't know it's there... lol.....

It is a fantastic stone, it looks like it should have Su but it smooth.

It is both "fast" and a great finisher. I can actually see swarf from the tomo slurry and it finishes wonderfully.

I have tried Alex's method of honing and have gone from my large Botan to set the bevel to the Suita with wonderful results.

My Okudo has Su - finishes nice also. I actually prefer it for mid-range honing because the feedback is so good.
Someday I'll pick up a Shinden Sunashi... that's one of my goals.

Do you guys realize that posting these pictures and discussion seriously promotes AD's? For those of us that have little willpower it is not a nice thing to do!

That Nagura makes me want to buy more cotis. It looks like a mini version of the big rock that superior shave has for sale! Oh how I'd love that one.
