What's new

Interesting day in NYC

I posted this over in teh newbies section but posting here to share -

So I was in NYC today having to go between two locations of Sloan Kettering (I had a bone marrow stem cell transplant 11 months ago - this is follow up testing which will go on for a while. Once I hit a year - March 28 - I'm considered pretty much good to go).

Well, the location for the first test was on E 53rd between 3rd and Lexington. The rest of the day was at the main hospital at 67th and York. Some of you can see what's coming....

I had enough time in between that instead of taking the shuttle I walked the 9 blocks up Lexington and dropped into Pasteur's. Holy smokes! What an experience. I had to keep it reasonably short to keep the appointments and to keep my wallet from emptying altogether. Two narrow aisles stacked floor to ceiling full of everything that brings us here. They had Merkur razors stocked right up front. Every little cream, soap, aftershave you could think of.

I got out with a Trumper's violey soap in the wooden bowl, a tube of Proraso Blue and three packs of blades I haven't tried - Red Personna, Astra SPs and Feather.

Next back up there on March 18 but not expecting a little natural stop that time.

All went well on the health front as well. Pretty soon I'll be at the point where they only check on me every six months.

Outstanding news on the health front - BMTs are a big deal. Nice that you could find some "me time" in the midst of the appointments/tests.

Now I just have be careful shaving. One nick and it's the other guy's blood..... After a year I can correspond and meet the donor if he is so inclined. They make you wait a year so he doesn't spend six months feeling great about it and then have me die in six months. I'm way past that danger but do have a new blood type.

My thoughts, exactly.

Congratulations on your good health.
Pretty soon, you'll be making up excuses to go to MSK just to sneak in a visit to Pasteur's!

I know this won't help but it's a good two hours away.... If I could find a place like that in Philly I'd cut my time in half!
