What's new

inherited a DE would like help identifying it.

hi guys, my grandfather reciently passed away, january 2010, and ive inherited, what im told was my great grandfathers Gillete DE with what looks like originalk blades still in the packaging, got the razor this morning,i've been interested in find out how much better a DE shave would be for a long time but didnt think the price of the razor was worth it(just incase i wasnt happy with the shave etc) i've spent the best part of an hour reading things on this forum with alot of questions i wanted to ask cleared up by reading the amazing stickys.Im massivley excited about trying this DE (prob sometime this week).

Ive done some research on google but found nothing

its a 2 piece, i think, in a small dark wooden box, on the inside of the box it has Gillete trade marked made in england, there are no serial numbers or markings anywhere on the thing, its not a twist to open, the Original blades have E1 written on them i am more than happy to upload an image if required. cheers guys, im gonna settle down and watch some youtube videos on how to shave with this thing...

Welcome to B&B!

Family razors are the best type! You've got instant history and something to remember your grandfather by...especially if you're using it

Pics would help. Otherwise try looking at mr-razor.com (he's a member here), there is a fantastic photographic catalogue of (I think) the entire Gillette range :001_smile

can i upload a pic straight on to here if so how o would i need to upload it to something like flickr and give you guys the link?, time to get out the digicam.

You can upload the photo directly to B&B from your computer or you can use a site like Flickr first. It would probably be easier to just upload from the computer though.

Looks like a Ball-End Tech with a Bakelite or other type of plastic case. The ball-end tech are great mild razors, perfect for starting out, and some people prefer them to anything else with the right blades.

Speaking of blades, buy new ones, don't use the ones you inherited.

i think thats it!!! some slight difference's mainly in the markings but the design is exactly the same...the top part of mine doesnt have that etched in diamond shape although im guessing it may have faded through general use and also the underside of the one i have just says "gillete made in england" thankyou so much!!!!
