Increase knot hole size

How do you recommend increasing the size of the hole for the knot? No lathe, so that's out of the question. Dremel tool, I assume?

Forstner bit in a drill press. Worked for me.

Both these methods work very well!

To clean out the knot hole, I'd suggest using a forstner bit with a smaller diameter than the original hole, than widening it with a dremel bit (Sanding drum or aluminum oxide stone) to the size you prefer.

+1 -- I use this exact method for opening up and cleaning out the knot hole. I've never had much luck with the sanding drums, but the stone works WONDERS for me.

I have a small hand-vac that I sit on it's side while I'm working. It works well to suck the dust and debris away from where I'm working. Keeps the odd smells down, too.

Anyone notice that weird smell when you're grinding? What IS that?!?
