Got some good news today (not going to jinx it by divulging too much info) but I thought I would treat myself to a little present. I've been waiting on the low end Simpsons brushes to come back in stock over at WCS, and figured now was a good of time as any to bite the bullet. I know many people will not follow my reasoning behind buying what I bought, however, I thought I would throw this out there anyways....
The badger brush I am presently using is made by AoS. It is NOT the trial brush that came with the $25 kit (although I do have that and use it from time to time) but rather it is the "Genuine Badger" brush that came with $60 Carry On Kit. To my surprise the tips are quite soft and the brush has a decent backbone for my liking despite not being too dense. Now, I can only believe that it would be a Pure badger brush because of the price of the entire kit being so cheap.
So when ordering on WCS I was originally going to buy a Simpsons Special S1 Best and a Simpsons Berkeley Best. I have read all of the forums regarding how best is worth the extra $$ when compared to the pure because the pure is too scritchy. And not out of disbelief of the reviews on the brush, however on the economics of it, I thought I would provide myself with a little experiment. I opted to get the Berkeley in Best, however, decided to save myself the $16.70 on the Special and snagged the Pure instead of Best. My reasoning was this; IF the brush that I presently have from AoS is in fact a Pure Badger, and this Simpsons Special in Pure can match the feeling that I get from the brush that I'm presently using, that I will be pleased with that. And if not, then I'm merely out $23 bucks and can post it on BST to recoop some losses meanwhile keeping the Berkely in Best. Now, with the savings of $16.70, I figured I was originally going to spend that money anyways, so why not just fill my cart a little.... I popped on over and added the Omega 11047 (Mighty Midget) and figured I would add that to my collection as well.
In my mind, my purchase was a win/win/win. However, only time will tell until the package arrives to see if I will be happy right out of the box. Hopefully they will be a great addition to my "future" shave den that I should get the key to in 13 days (that was my original good news)
