In honor of the Futur(e)

So I shaved with my Futur awhile back and I opened it up to "5". It cut me towards the back of my jawline and it bled like a small faucet. I have since then feared the Futur due to my past with it (har har). So in honor my latest title change, back to the Futur, I will shave with it again tomorrow morning set to "1" and see where my shave journey will take me. :)

So here's my question: do most just leave the Futur at its first level when starting out with their first adjustable and move up from there or just simply go wild with a random (higher) number? Thanks gang!

I found at first I used 1. Then I tried a couple of different passes at different numbers. I eventually found 2.5 was where I left it for now. I often think about changing it , but I never do. It shaves so well at this setting for me. Good luck, fantastic razor!

I played around with my Futur the first few shaves and discovered that the higher settings didn't yield a closer shave. So I dialed it back to 1 and that's where I've kept it. It's a great razor that delivers consistently excellent shaves.

Good luck on your shave tomorrow! :thumbup1:

Yikes! Small faucet?! Haha. I just got my futur in the mail today. Going to use it tomorrow morning! From what I read, I'm expecting a few nicks but hopefully no faucets! Wish me luck.

No blood shed to report gentlemen! But I did not have a comfortable shave. My face is a little red and is clearly irritated. I must conquer this razor! I'll continue keeping it on "1" for now and give it another shot tomorrow. I have been using pre-shave oil lately and I neglected that today so I'll bring it all together tomorrow.

What are you using for soap or cream?

I first set mine to 3...OK. Could do better

Bumped it to 6....notched back to 5.5 where it has stayed for the past years.

Only time I cut myself was when I first got it, fiddling around with the adjuster barehanded. Not a problem if there is NOT a blade in there. Afterwards, any adjusting was cdone either.....
1. With a towel or washcloth over the razor head, Or...
2. Sans blade

Of yourse once it found it's home at 5.5 the whole adjusting thing became rather academic.

When I first got mine, I started at 1 and worked up in .5 increments. For me 2.5 is good, 3 is a bit much, so it stays at 2.5. It's the razor I use the most in any given week.

Just used my futur for the first time yesterday. With a feather set at 1.5. No nicks or cuts. Smooth shave. I'm digging it and ill probably move my way up by .5 each time just to find my comfortable zone.

I call mine the butcher, no matter the setting ill bleed. Any other de razor and i have no problems. I thinks its due to the fact that the futur doesnt bend the blade at all. I let a straight razor guy at work borrow it and he had the same problem, said he looked like he got shot in the face with a shot gun.

Wow. I'm glad I haven't been "shot" yet...

When I first got mine, I followed others' advice and left it at setting no. 1. But over the past few months, have slowly worked it up incrementally to setting 3.5. I find it easier to get the proper angle when it's opened up a bit. I tried setting no.4 one time, and tore my face up. Soon I'll venture up into the higher numbered settings again, but for now I'm still enjoying 3.5. Personally, I don't recommend a random choice, but rather a graduated progression into the higher numbered settings.
