Illusive 1988 super speed?

I thought the cutoff was 1986. Found this on the bay and it sure looks like I1 to me.
Has anybody ever seen one of these? Is it possible it was made for a different market?

I posted last week or so about an 88 super speed on ebay. They exist. They should have a plastic bottom though

I'm pretty sure Gillette only made Super Adjustables by 1988, so there should be an adjustment ring around the collar. And don't quote me on this, but I think the serial numbers on later razors were stamped on the inside of the head, underneath the silo doors, rather than the bottom. Omak is right about the base plate, too. It would be plastic by that time. If that is indeed an I1, I'll bet it's a 1963. Gillette reused letters when a certain amount of time had elapsed between production runs.

The older ones were stamped in the shape of a diamond rather than a rectangle. Here it is next to a W2 for reference.

Looks like 1988, indeed. Any markings on the inside of the head? Made in USA?

It is interesting that there is no diamond logo: along with the square base-plate that quashes any lingering ideas about I=1963, and anyway the Flare Tip was still going strong then.

Does anyone else have an I-code black-handle super speed?

I found this F-2 1985 on the bay, the seller wrote 'Made In USA' must be behind the case.

Same square base plate.

Gillette still had their US facility making DE blades and razors through 88 and possibly 89. They were in the process of closing it down, but many things were still being made there in small quantities through the transition. I have super blue blades and thins from that period as well as some 1989 Thins from France where they essentially used the old style US packaging (I have the case packaging for both years too, and they just changed the packaging to say made in France). A year or so later, New packaging was used that is very distinctive and shows that the razors and blades were not from the US at a glance.
