For me it was sometime back in 2006. Used a Slim Adjustable, Col. Conk soap and a Derby blade. It did not go well. I got all cut up. Waited 5 years or so before trying again. In between I used disposables. Now it goes well . I get mostly flawless BbS shaves regularly. I won’t look back.

1973: Gillette SuperSpeed purchased new with 3 Gillette Thin blades. Williams soap. I mixed up something akin to beer foam—way too much water—I didn’t know what I was doing. Scratchy. I switched to canned foam. I have that razor still and now use Williams with excellent results.
