iKon Power of Five Set on its way!

I just secured a trade for an iKon Power of Five set with another member and it will be on its way tomorrow! I'm looking forward to having different options in one set and think the OSS head will make a great choice for when I'm traveling. For those of you that have used iKon razors, what blades have you had luck with? I typically use Feathers in my EJ89, so I'll probably start there, but I'm interested in what else I should try.

Probably the Astra SP is most consistent for me. For a lot of other people as well. However, I do get good shaves from a variety of blades...even Derby and Merkur as long as I do not try and shave two weeks with them. Even Shark's. I generally use a blade 2-3 times then out. The Astra I can go longer. I don't get any intrinsic satisfaction in shaving with the same blade for long periods of time. Too much fun to change things up.

I use the OSS frequently. And the best blade results (for me) are the Egyptians (Lord) of any kinds, except the Lord Platinum Class

I have the OSS and liked the open comb side so much I bought the open comb base plate also. I have used a variety of blades in it and they all work pretty well. As mentioned earlier the Astras are good and the sharks also, but the feathers are again the winners. The iKon with a feather blade gives a pretty remarkable shave. But the razor itself feels good in your hand, I'm pretty sure you'll like it. I don't think there is much difference in terms of aggressiveness, between the DE89 and theiKon, the ikon may be slightly more but not by much.

How do the iKon heads compare to the EJ DE89 in terms of aggressiveness?

It's been a while since I have used my wife's EJ DE89, but I think the aggressiveness goes like this: OSS SB < OSS OC ≤ EJ DE89 < iKon open comb. (I don't know about the standard SB baseplate as I have not used that one.)

BTW, my favorite of my iKon baseplates is the open comb. The OSS gives good shaves, but the open comb gives closer (yet still comfortable) shaves.

Perfect! That's what I'm looking for.

The razor was in my mail box when I got home from work this afternoon! I'd been holding off on shaving since Saturday, so I opened it and lathered up! I started with the OSS base plate so that I could try both sides. The open comb side is amazing! I was having trouble finding and keeping the right angle on the SB side, but after two passes with the OC side and one with the SB I've had the most comfortable shave of my life! I splashed on some Captain's Choice Bay Rum expecting it to sting, and nothing! I doubled checked the ingredients on the Captain's Choice website just to make sure that it actually has alcohol in it. Very excited to try the OC base plate next.

I used all 3 base plates with my OSS handle. These are my thoughts about them, see post number #5

I'm currently phasing out all blades until all left is the OSS + Feather blades. I can get BBS without irritation everyday with Astras, indian Wilkis, Rapiras, bla bla... but Feathers give it to me in a more relaxed way.

I have a feeling that's the route I'll be taking as well. I had a few spots that I missed from my shave last night, so I did a single pass this morning and tried the OC base plate. It was good, but not as comfortable as the OC side of the OSS baseplate. I'll give it another shot with at least 24 hours growth, but I think OSS is going to be the clear winner.
