Identity of Gillette razor

Hi guy's hoping one of you can help.

I recently purchased a vintage grooming kit with chrome soap tin and chrome shave stick/brush holders. The kit appears unused and also included a DE razor which appears unused and had an oblong piece of card between the handle and head which appears to be original packaging.

Razor is 3 piece, very light and it appears the handle and bottom part of head is aluminium with chrome top.

Top has Gillete on it within a diamond. Underneath has Gillete made in England.

I have included a picture, hope it helps!

I doubt I will ever use it but it would be interesting to find out what it is and possibly age it?

I made trade it in the future, and as such it would be nice to be able to describe it honestly and accurately.

Regards,

Cyril

Yeah, it is unused condition. I have popped chrome bits and bobs from kit in ultrasonic to clean them up. Didn't put razor parts in as it is new original.......

It is very light. I am new to DE (been brush/lather/Mach 3) man for ten years. Bought first DE Christmas 2012 and already own Merkur Barberpole, Slim, RedTip and Fatboy as well as pictured razor. Really got the bug but think heavy razors make it easier.

No disasters, nicks or cuts so far but working on technique. Light razor may prove beyond me just now!

Told wife " DE shaving is much cheaper" ha! Certainly not true in my case!

Cyril

Yep, ball end tech. Nice mild shaver! Give it a good dip in a mix of very, very hot water and dish wash soap but don't let it sit for too long. Then give it a 10 minute soak in Barbicide and be careful in not letting the razor sit in Barbicide for too long. Then, enjoy!

It's a ball-end Tech. From the look of it, at least the guard plate is aluminum, but from your description the handle might be aluminum as well. Anything that isn't aluminum would be nickel plated, rather than chrome.

Unfortunately the Brits didn't start date coding their razors until much, much later, so you probably won't be able to get very focused on a production date. It's got the older style head without the notched guard plate, so I would probably guess it somewhere in the 1950s.

That's great, thanks!

I have Barbicide which I bought for other vintage razors. I may well give it a whirl as it appears to be a mild shave,

Still experimenting with blade/razor combo, Merkur is great with Feathers. Had 100 Perma Sharp (made in Scotland) given and have 100 Polsiver on route.

Need to reign in the razor/blade swaps till I find my best combo, then go for occasional rotation. As razor is common and therefore without great value unused, I shall give it a go in time.

Thanks for tips/info/advice.

Cyril
