Identify a German? vintage razor

Hey all

Got a large lot of shaving equipment from a german ebayer it was his grandads he was a barber in the army durring world war two.

In the box came twelve identical razors all looking unused, the plastic looked perhaps to modern to be from the war. But I cannot find any information out about these razors, what I do know is they shave brilliantly.

Can anyone help me identify them please:

Except for the metal parts, they look a lot like the Wilkinson Sword Classic razor that I have that is made in Germany.

I also have a wilky classic, and they are very different in the flesh, the top part has a different length spindle and different size thread, and the handle twists on the bottom third, they are also a little longer. Ops forgot to mention the handle is solid platic there is a brass bar inside but you cannot see this through the plastic.

They shave completly differently, with different blade placement and gap.

I am wondering if perhaps they are a prelude to the wilky classic.

Im quite surprised no one has any ideas, cant beleive these have not been seen before, actually looking at the collection they came from I can..

Are they Bakelite...??? That can help date them somewhat....

If you're not familiar with the bakelike test:

1. Rub vigorously with fingertip for about 15 seconds (you should feel the heat from the friction)...

2. If it smells like formaldehyde,, it's made of bakelite.....

If in doubt,,, bakelite won't melt if you hold a match to it (but that's somewhat destructive)....

hi all, yes thanks for the bakelite info, im lucky enough to be surrounded by bakelite. They are more modenr than that they are a modern plastic, from the 50's maybe even 60's.

They are definatly post WWII as the brushes I got are all post WWII but no later than the 50's

One thing I can say is they have given me the best shave ever. my dad also agres. They naturally put your hand at the correct angle brilliant razor.

But so far there seems to be only 14 in the world lol

So it must be Rotbart :w00t: But seriously I have one too, a Rotbart 2000 built just before they were taken over by Gillette; no other razor is a match for this one.

I can figure it out for you, only catch is you have to send me one.
For scientific purposes and whatnot...

So probably a Rotbart 2 piece.

machine99703, cross my palm with silver and one can be on a plane to you this evening :)

I'm not familiar with these but as from the looks of this it has a close resemblance to a razor which was produced in the GDR (East Germany). You could search on German wet shaving forums.

Yah I gues sI should have posted for everyone, we were having a PM discussion about these. Heres what I found

I did find some more info on your razors though. I found this link
http://rolfrost.de/hobelsammlung.html
The description translates as:
A new razor, made mostly of plastic from the ice rink Feintechnik (Thuringia). The company still in production system and razor blades.

The German company Feintechnik, looks like they are still in business making blades and razors under the Croma name(never heard of it before), their product line doesn't look nearly as well as it used to. Heres a link to their razor section
http://www.feintechnik.com/index.php...id=155&lang=en

Yes myself and machine99703 have been having a discussion about these.

And they are now available over in the BST section if anyone wants to try one.

Not sure about there current products, although its nice to see a company survive gillette.

I have a sampler of Croma lying around, waiting to be tested. Will try them soon and let you know how they are.

I tried the Croma blade in the R1 (that's the razor we were discussing here). Nice detail is that the R1 was made by VEB Feintechnik. They do not make R1 razors anymore but they do make Croma blades. I had a great shave with this combo. The Croma is very smooth and sharp. Pity they are a bit hard to come by.
