I won this on dbay - adv. as a bakelite Simpson's - Made in England.

Can anyone help me with an ID or point me in some direction where I might find some info? (Go West, Young Man....)

Don't make me angry by showing me that brush! I was a second too late with my bid. I was leading it just before you but missed the chance to come back with a bid
It's ok though, I was just kidding. ;) hope you enjoy it
And if you ever don't want it, I'll gladly take it off your hands

That's funny. I was in the hospital with my new baby and missed bidding on it  Looks like you almost had some serious competition there...

nope - don't be playing the "new baby" card on me... I've gone through lots of new babies.

nice try, though.

I was surprised that I won, frankly - seems like a reasonable price. (Almost had me worried that there's something wrong with the lot that I didn't see!)

Can't wait to get it! I will report back... still looking for an ID, though!

Great brush...no idea on the ID though.

Does anyone know if the butterscoth color is a result of age (ie early white plastic ages yellow) or if the handles started out yellow?

I would be curious what polymer these old brushes were turned from.

It is definitely good price, but surprisingly, used Simpsons go for similar prices on the BST. I searched some up. There were as many or perhaps more of these types of brushes in the 40-50 dollar range as there were in the 100 and above range. Condition didn't make a difference either, I saw a few beautiful brushes, some two band, that went for 40! And like I said, these weren't outliers, they were the norm in vintage English brush sales

butterscotch is the orignal colour.

Ive an old simpsons too, unfortunately info in model names etc on these old brushes is pretty thin on the ground. Perhaps DrP will chime in

Not much info on these vintage brushes anywhere (I've looked and looked). They sure are beautiful. What I've found about these butterscotch brushes, they are 40-60 yrs old. I'm not so sure they are made of Bakelite, as DrP mentioned they are some type of Resin.

2 rules of thumb (YMMV):

1. If there's a NOS or unused knot, you are probably gonna have a nice functional brush.

2. If the knot has been used at all, even lightly, you're most likely looking at a re-knot. Which can still be really cool, in fact the best of both worlds.

One thing you can count on is that Simpson label is toast the first time you it this brush within 6 ft of water.
