I tried the Proraso pre and post shaving cream

Hi

After my shave I put a little bit of it in my hand after I slightly wet my face. When I put it on I almost found it over powering and nearly 4 hours later I can still feel a very small amount of greasiness. Although it's no where near as greasy as the Nivea product I tried.

Is it likely I used too much? I used about the size of a pea, or slightly more.

Aside from the "initial near overpowering" it smells much nicer than the Wahl Bay Rum aftershave I've been using. I guess that's a personal thing.

That would be the right quantity. I never used it as an Aftershave but pre-shave, that's what I used!

As a post for me three finger nail scratches for me on a wet face rubbed in . . . One on each cheek and on on the neck. I'm guessing a third to a half pea. I love following it up with Aqua Velva Ice Blue.

+1. I think a pea sized amount is too much. Just make sure your face is wet so that it's easier to spread and rubbed in. A quarter of a pea sized amount seems more apt to me :thumbup1:

I use the Aloe and Green Tea white jar version. I wait until my face is dry and then I dab it on my face (Cheeks, chin, neck)... then I just rub it in until in disappears; It works great for me.

I use it on a slightly wet face; in fact, it's the only AS balm that I use on a damp face
Because of its consistency, I'm afraid that it will have to rub it too hard against freshly shaven skin (if the skin is not damp).

Although the White version seems creamier and easier to apply than the Green

I also use it as a pre-shave. I wet the face and rub in a dollop of the cream and wait for the icy feeling and the great smell. Wakes me up in the am.

I apply less than a pea sized portion to my whole face - not just the beard area - after applying a typical amount of the splash to just my beard area. Got the idea from a review, and love the feeling.

If it's greasy, you used too much. It's almost to the point where, if I get a small enough portion, I'm not even sure I can get it all over my face - but I can.

When I use it, I use quite a bit less than a pea size--just a dab really--rubbed into my wet mug. Once or twice I applied it after shaving to see what would happen, but I didn't think it did anything. I like the menthol feeling but the only preshave that I feel like I get any real results from is Castle Forbes.

As far as I know, Proraso only markets it as a pre-shave now. In my opinion, it works great as a pre-shave, and helps me get a noticeably closer, smoother shave. As a post-shave, I find it far too greasy, even when used sparingly. Besides, Proraso has some outstanding products made specifically for after-shave.

I used to use both as a pre and post shave, but since it really dries out my skin, I now only use it for preshaving when I have a lot of stubble and need the extra lubrication. I works for great for both, imo, except the dryness. When I start getting my hands on some summer money, I'm getting the white cream with aloe v and green tea!

Also; as a preshave, I'd use about a pea-sized amount, but for aftershave, I'd use maybe half - otherwise it gets too greasy.

A pea sized amount is still way too much for AS use IMO. I used to use that much and more on a dry face, and it left me dry but tacky.

It goes a long long way, and covers a big area when you put it on. Use less and see how you go. I find when you get the right amount, it absorbs very well and moisturises too.

I used a smaller amount this morning and it wasn't overpowering at all. I don't think it felt greasy on my face during the day.

I notice it has Cetearyl Alcohol in it but that it isn't the same as "Alcohol" so would it still sterilise the skin at all?

Thanks.

I won't rely on it for sterilizing properties if I were you. I think an alum block or proper alcohol based splash would work better.

Would the Proraso Splash work best with it if I apply it after I put on the Proraso pre and post shaving cream? I've got some aftershaves with alcohol in them but they are different brands.

I use AS before I put a balm on, as I think the alcohol dissipates better on a 'fresh' face.

But you can put the splash on after if you like. Depending on your skin type, the Proraso splash could be enough by itself, it has moisturising agents in it.

But I find the pre/post does all the jobs well enough for me, so I use it by itself.

This is what I do as well. Also, I find that the freshly splashed on aftershave also helps me spread the pre/post around my beard area better. The moisture allows me to use only the smallest amount necessary of the pre/post to prevent greasiness.

Only ever use this as a pre shave and i find its good stuff, as for a/s i do find the scent quite strong so i would not fancy using that much.
