What's new

I think I'm growing old(er)

I've been a punk for almost 20 years, but I think it's time for a more "grown up" style. I found a couple of Gant shirts cheap at the Salvation army and ordered these shoes: http://heppo.no/herresko/stovler-boots/ottawa-113288-0099

My biggest problem is that like many people these days on quite a strict budget so I have to take my time to get a new wardrobe together and find thing on the cheap. The next problem is that I'm quite a big man, not high, but a bit wide on the center :blushing:

So I guess I'm just here to say hi to this part of the forum and tell you I'm here to learn.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to look good. (Yes, it's easier to look good if you throw great piles of cash at it, but not necessary.)

The key is to think, research, and plan ... so that you "know what you are looking for" in advance. You also don't need a lot of items ... a few quality items well chosen (again, back to the planning in advance thing) will do you very well indeed.

Hi! From one punk to another, those are nice finds! Gant makes great stuff. Enjoy yr finds and fresh style. Somehow we become even punkier when we abandon the traditional uniform.

I've found that a man's personal style as they grow older is best when informed by the experiences of their youth. In other words - don't cling to 25, but let that 25-year-old add some flavor to what you're wearing now.

Vintage clothing stores and second-hand shops are great places for classic style on a budget. You can always dress down a classic plaid blazer or tweed coat with an awesome pair of jeans, a Henley or open-collar button-down, and an old pair of brown Doc Martens.

I will never give up my Doc's. Right now I have some burgundy ones, but it will be nice to get something else to change things up with.

these days i tend to wear a lot of brooks brothers, but will always throw in an item that sort-of gives me away: a colorful sock, a big brassy key clasp, a vintage LED watch, an ironic wallet. Also, i wear a haircut that is so retro-conservative that it can only be explained as punk rock.

the untucked man-blouse, blazer and jeans look just isn't for me. it shouldn't be for anyone under the age of 45.

You just explained the "I've just finished a long day of work and don't care what I look like while I finish a beer" look, which is usually best kept indoors, in the garage, or on the patio.

I hear ya... I need to rethink somethings myself a bit, and sooner rather than later I guess. I grew up an 80's metalhead, and my closet is still 95% black tshirts, most with some sort of skull on them. It's probably time to add some variety into the options... *sigh*

That's me to, I don't think I have a t-shirt without a band name on it ;)

...actually, i don't mind that set-up at all. it's ok to loosen a bit up after work.what bugs me however, is getting dressed with that specific "look" in mind.
the untucked man-blouse with blazer and jeans is basically the mullet of menswear.
