What's new

I ordered a hat from Art Fawcett

I have looked around for a while on different sites for a hat that I could wear with a suit that would add something to being dressed up. After visiting many sites I found Art Fawcett's name being mentioned over and over again. So I started the process last week. In the mail yesterday came a box with a measuring tape but something I had never seen before. It was a well made hard plastic band to fit around the head where you would wear your hat with 25 or so adjustments. Each adjustment slides about an inch and a half with a small wingnut and bolt. With this on your head you lock down each one so that you get a perfect fit. On and off, make a small adjustment. On and off again, and make another adjustment until it is just right. How great is that? The soft tape measure gives a final measurement and it's done. He also sent hat material in different shades of browns and grays and others so that you can see exactly what it is you are buying. I am impressed. No more guessing that you are a medium or maybe a large. This is the answer for a custom-made hat.
Because of demand from other people that know about Art's work and the labor he puts into each hat made, he said it would be around the end of September before it is ready. This is one project I am really looking forward to.

Congratulations! What color did you choose? He makes beautiful hats. I've never bought one from him because - in this economy - I watch my dollars carefully and buy less expensive fedoras. Enjoy it, and post pics when you get it!

Art called me last week after he recieved my request. The measuring equipment he sent came pronto and I shipped it out the next day. He told me because of demand it would be close to October or end of September before the hat would arrive. You know, it took around 30 minutes to get a good fit taking the piece he sent on and off but it took me about two days to pick the color that I wanted for my hat. With my wifes help I chose "Whiskey" as the shade of brown the I would like to have. Now to choose the shape or style. And not to forget the ribbon.

Im intrigued by the process, but im not sure what size crown or brim size I would want as my first Fawcett. I would go with a black beaver with black band, so thats the easy part.

i was searching through the limited edition options. pretty nice looking hats. It looks overwhelming picking out a style and other options. good luck. would love to see the finished product.

I also love these type of felt and beaver hats, and have been wearing them since the early 1960's....as an everyday hat I wear a wool beret, you wear it once and save it for a cold water wash....I have a dozen, and wash them when I get to the last one...HOWEVER,with a high quality hat such as these, even though my head is shaved,I still get that "hair odor" smell in my good wool and beaver hats...recently ,as a last resort,I tried spraying the inside with dr. scholls foot powder spray..it improved things dramatically, but not 100%....any of you real hat wearing gents have a better solution to hat odor ???

Congrats on the order Crazy Legs. I've never heard a bad word about Art's work and his business ethics are top notch.
Post a pic when you hat arrives.
