What's new

i need help.... explain this to me..

ok...all ebay sellers have gone completely insane with the pricing...

i just looked at a razor with a completely busted up blade but a "decent" set of scales that the starting bid is $90...

every other razor i see on there is just completely crackhead priceing....

is it just me or has everyone lost touch with reality and realistic pricing?? :001_huh:

They've lost touch but if you keep an eye out you can find some good ones
I found an vintage King Cutter decent shape and 2x Ivory Wade and Butcher part of a 7 day set for very reasonable pricing
No major problems just need to be cleaned

Same with antique fairs. Vendors grab ebay prices so broken scales/blades/massive chips n frowns for 90-100 cause its special and "made in germany"

I always "auction" anything I sell on ebay and start at $9.95. I reckon it's always best to let the market decide the price of a razor.

It's you...:001_smile
BUT there's a buyer somewhere for every thing on ebay...

I do too, for the most part. I've had luck starting at .99 and free shipping with items going for MUCH more than I would have expected. Never underestimate the frenzy!

I've always had an amazement with Ebay. Though, I've never been able to figure out which is more astounding. What people will sell, or what people will buy....

It's my fault. I just bought a Filarmonica 14 for a bazillion Samolians. It had those funny foreign words in its name so it must be worth a lot, right?

With people like me buying, they can put any price they want on it and one of us will buy it. I should be banned from eBay... but then... the economy needs me.

Another funny example is the Feather ACs. If a used one comes up, it will sell for almost the new price and most times shipping is charged. If you go to Smallflower, you can get the new one for about the same price but with free shipping. Another example: I wanted a Dovo 2 day set with case - last year - and the eBay price ended up MORE than the new price at Royal Shave (and, again, free shipping from RS).

Ebay is nuts. I have seen used articles sell for more than new ones and several identical pieces sell, within an hour, for wildly different prices.

i struggle with ebay... people always say there are great straights for a steal and they would never buy anything over $25. I'd be buying nothing then..

i think i saw no one bid on a razor that has been consistently hitting 3 c-notes and it was still at $0.99. I don't have a clue why, it looked great.

On a serious note (as opposed to my last post), razors are going up in price all around. B/S/T has bargains but there have been several recent bargains that are easily bested by eBay or buying new.

Also, eBay has thousands of razors for sale. There is probably a reason for that... they are all selling and bringing good prices.

To be honest, I think you get a higher final price if you start the price really low. My logic is you get more bidders with a starting price. If you start the price out high the razor better look really nice...lol
Back when I sold razors on ebay, I was always surprised at the effect of starting the bid really low. Most of the time the price ended higher then I would have priced it with a BIN.

As for deals under $25. I'm sure they are still there you just have to know what your looking for. Bad pics, mislabled, etc... stuff like that. Now if your looking for a Spanish blade, Swedish blade, Puma...stuff like that. Chances are your not going to find a deal on them (at least not a cheap deal).

I will say this it tougher now that is seems everyone has bought a buffer and thinks every $25 razor is worth $100 because they made it shiny
About the time I stopped buy ebay razors was when this started happening alot.

To be 100% honest, I won't buy a restored razor off ebay unless I know the person that did the restoring.
In my opinion, it's easier to hide stuff with bad pic of a shine blade, then a bad pic of a unrestored blade

Sorry for the rambling :001_smile

I agree 100%. I buy razors and pocket knives off the "bay", BUT I know what I'm willing to pay and it doesn't bother me a bit to lose an auction. I won't buy "cleaned" knife either. I know how hot a buffing wheel can get a piece of steel. Shiny may sell for some folks but it doesn't work for me unless it is the ORIGINAL shine and I can tell the difference. If I can't tell by the pic, I'll ask the seller. If he hems and haws, I find something else.

I've "stolen" a lot of things for a song literally by looking at EVERY ITEM rather than searching for a particular name. It's a time investment but it can pay off.

And yes I agree, there are a lot of very misinformed sellers out there that have no clue. There appear to be a BUNCH more misinformed buyers with deep pockets and no clue as well.

One of the nice things about razors is that there aren't counterfeiters that I know of. Can't say the same about the pocket knife bidness. I can name two that routinely sell doctored up ***'s for HUGE bucks and still have 100% feedback. Doesn't make sense to me but they get away with it and laugh about it.

eBay is funny. Some things go for so much, and I can't tell why... And others go super cheap, and I can't tell why either

I think it is cyclical as well. I sold a lot of DE razors on the Bay. Red Tips and Fat Boys would bounce around in price over the months. I think if you wait out the current frenzy prices will settle again.

I wonder sometimes if astronomical prices that make other ebay sellers try to sell so high are just "guaranteed to win" bids people set up. Get frustrated at being outbid multiple times on something silly that should be cheap, so you pop off a $215 "I'm going to win this sucker" e-snipe bid... only to find that some other person is feeling the same way and overbid you, or underbid you by a couple o bucks.

makes you wonder if the sniping program people sold someone the secret to see what someone elses "top number" was....

I can explain that one. If I want it, it sells for alot,...if I am selling it, it goes cheap

It seems like people are just hunting for brands in the shaving department. I found a couple of gencos and a wm elliot on there for pretty cheap but anything wade and butcher, fili, boker, etc. is through the roof! Same thing with brushes, I just bought a nice (hopefully) NIB crabtree and evelyn boar for 14 bucks but anything simpson, vulfix, thater is overpriced. I wonder how many people on there are just buying stuff up with hopes of reselling it.
