What's new

I have finally found my perfect shave.

Being new to this and buying everything I see in at the antique malls it is a $3.00 estate sale find that has given me the best shave yet. I got this razor for $3.00 this morning at an estate sale, came home cleaned it up, threw in a derby blade and with just a double pass got the best shave yet. I have other Gillette adjustables but nothing comes close to this one.

I agree with that statement. I keep telling my Wife that this is the last razor I will need but keep getting calls from the shops. A few weeks ago I received a $50.00 axxxxn gift card but could not find a single item I wanteed until I saw a small ad on the screen for a Merkur razor the 180 long handle which I bought along with 100 derby blades. After a week of shaving and being here I started out to antique shops looking for other razors passing off my business card along the way with call me if you get safety razors. I get calls 2 or 3 times a week but the razors are pretty much always the same tech, slim adjustables, super speed, the old ball type ect ect I have a terrible habit of buying them all even though I already have duplicates. I would love to find other types like fat boy razors without having to buy online but thos are harder to come by. Today at the estate sale I spoke with the owner who puts these sales on and when I bought the razors she asked why in the world would I buy a used razor. I told her I just like the way they look she then stated she usually throws these out in the garbage when prepping for a sale she was dumbfounded that anyone would want someone's used razor. I left her my # so hopefully she comes across something good for me. Lastly I am beginning to feel like a hoarder when it comes to these razors and cannot part with even my duplicate old razors especially since my first fiasco.

Awesome find. I understand the hoarding, can't let go, thoughts completely. I've got one like that except it's gold. P1 model I think. Love my fatboy, slim (also use several OC's) My gold one is clean and waiting for work. You're making me want to throw it into the rotation

Thanks, can you tell me how to remove calcium build up from the black handle portion? I was thinking clr but am not sure if that will kill the paint.

Nice find, mate. Cheers!

The only reason my wife let me buy my 1985 Super Adjustable is because I mentioned that it was nicknamed The Black Beauty. She told me that I had to buy it.

A $3.00 score on a Super Adjustable??? Wow! Great find in the wild! :a50:

Scores like these are what give us all hope we will find our own Holy Grail!

Nice razor, I have my Dad's 1970 Super Adjustable, and my Great Grandpa's 1945 Contract Tech.

What setting did you use on the adjustable to get yer great shave?

#9 the first time. Now I use a shim made from a used blade set to #8 and have had 2 better shaves since.

Its amazing for their price and age how well these razors were built. By today's standards they are tanks made to last a lifetime if not two or three. My wife recently purchased a Parker Unisex 29L which is like a Lady Gillette copy and the difference in quality is immediately apparent. I even had to bend around the workings just to make the silo doors line up flush on the ends. It does shave well but gives a person some insight into the day and age in which we now live.
