What's new

I have become an Old Spice convert!

So B&B member here since 2008/2009, tried all sorts of AS, Pens BB, Truefitt, Proraso, and La Toja to name a few across the spectrum. After my most recent military move, I've been having a hard time finding quality AS (most folks will not ship alcohol via air to military APO addresses). So the other day at the commissary I decided to try a cheap Old Spice aftershave...looked at it for years on the shelves and scoffed because I used to think: "how could that smell any good, it wasn't rare or unique" etc.

I've used it twice. Each time I'm brought back to my childhood in a way that no other product has accomplished. Memories of playing in the barn, swinging from the trees with my friends on long endless Summer days all came to mind in a flash. If you've seen the movie Ratatouille, I can only describe it as similar to when the food critic takes his first bite of Remy's Ratatouille and remembers his childhood...

This stuff is amazing. I immediately went out and purchased a NOS puck of SS on the 'Bay...now I'm trying to discern whether or not its worth trying for the old AS as I understand the scents are a bit different...not sure I want to since it appears the Shulton version is somewhat rarer and hard to come by...don't want to get hooked on something I can't find and the current drugstore/commissary version already has a strong effect on me.

I seriously cannot believe I put off using this stuff for so long...

It's nice to hear a story like yours. I bought old spice lime on a whim. The smell really evokes a sense of nostalgia. My wife made fun of me for buying it but she LOVES how it smells. My face feels great after using as well.

I love it. You think your wife teased you! I'm 25 my wife thinks I'm a grandfather in a young body haha

That makes two of us! My wife things I should open a shop called "Old Time Men's Stuff" and run it...that said, interestingly enough she loves the scent of OS...so that helps!

I am a third generation Old Spice user. You can order the original Shulton Old Spice from WCS here: http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Old-Spice-After-Shave-Lotion-Original-50ml_p_715.html
You can also order the OS Cream there too!

Love Old Spice, to me it's like a mellow version of Clubman Special Reserve, without that horrible cloying note I get from SR.

I too have become an Old Spice convert. I actually really really like the P&G scent! And it makes my face feel AMAZING! If you suffer mild razor burn, OS takes right care of it, at least for me it does.

I only wish they would have stuck with glass. I would pay an extra $2/bottle to see it back in glass :)

Yeah...gotta agree with you there!

But I have two of the Shulton variety on the way...so at least I'll have a couple of the glass ones on the shelves!

I like your description of using OS being similar to the scene in Ratatouille. That was exactly how I felt the first time I used Clubman, all of sudden I was transported back in time to being 4 years old at 'Zing's Barbershop with my dad. When I used OS for the first time in 25 years, there I was back at my first shave. These scents take me back in way not previously possible...

Yeah, I too recently picked up a bottle of Old Spice and went on a nostalgia trip. I now have classic OS scented deodorant, bodywash, and shampoo. I think I may pick up a bottle of the cologne as well. :biggrin1:
