What's new

I did it! First DE shave!

OMG sooooo good. Half-arsed the Kyle's prep, used a DE89 with Lord blade. KMF creme, badger brush, Clubman AS. Single WTG pass and a few touch-ups of missed spots. Even hit a few stragglers ATG wet. NO blood, NO irritation, and for the first time in my life, my ingrown hair bumps were not inflamed! Not sure if it helped, but used a Bic single blade and home made lather the last 3 shaves.

A really nice suprise was finding out that repeated hot rinses keep the razor head very warm which feels incredible! I could actually hear the hairs being cut which gave instant confidence that there was no need to apply pressure to the razor. And a floating bowl kept the lather warm for touch-ups.

I really appreciate you all for the help.

congrats on your experience. I have found that i look forward to my shave as a relaxing end to a day and if there is one thing i can complain about is that i didn't make the switch sooner.

Nice work.

It is a terrific sense of accomplishment, isn't it.

For a while I felt embarrassed about how ecstatic I was over such a simple thing as a shave. Then I realized that this was the first time in my life that I had ever obtained an irritation-free shave. It was also somewhat climactic to have success after buying so much gear before ever trying it.

I just knew it had to work for me though, as there was nothing left after this but straights. Also such a large, active, and friendly (read: smart) community on this website couldn't be wrong!

I just had my first DE with my 89 and it want scary as I had imagined. Shave wasnt the best but no irritation and my AS didnt burn as bad.

Nothing wrong with becoming excited. I know the first time i made proper lather, it was I was hearing the angels sing.

what's kyles prep?

Kyle's prep is a rather elaborate hot-towel preshave routine advocated by a B&B member called Kyle. There is probably a sticky about it.

It works for some people, and those people swear by it. Personally, I find it too much trouble (for starters) and I find that it actually increases shaving irritation.

Read up about it and try it if you feel inclined.
