What's new

I am now 100% Injector

After the last few weeks of using something other than an Injector, I found myself wondering, "I wish this shave were as close, as safe, and as effortless as an Injector." Some shaves were really close, but ripped my face to ribbons. Others left no irritation, but also left more stubble on my face than when I started.

I am not lying or exaggerating when I say that I've never had a bad shave with any Injector. (Barring that one time a new soap gave me a bad rash. Should've tested the arm-skin first.)

So, I've decided to do something about it and have been selling off my non-Injector collection.

I'm down to one DE left, though it's a doozy (a Fatip) and one SE (the G-Bar). When I eventually run out of blades for them, I will be selling them off too.

Now I get to decide if I want to walk on the wild side (E-type or Adjustable fully open) or just get cleaned-up quickly in the morning (Hydro-magic, Stick Schick, N-type).

If it weren't for the Injector-philes here who turned me on to the over-looked redheaded stepchild of traditional wetshaving, I would have never have known that such a perfect shave could be had so easily.

Go with a Cobra (uses disposable straight razor injector blades). Easily the one and only safety razor on the planet.

There was a Cobra pass around going on... not sure if it still is or not though. will look for the thread and post back. Good way to try it before spending the $$$ for one

Congratulations, the IJ's are still, and probably always my favorite razors .. back when I started shaving (google DDE) we had DE's & Injectors. Took a yellow Schick to college, still have one in the standard rotation

Glad to hear you found what works best for you. My first razor was a hand me down injector from my dad in 1971, so they're kind of special to me.

Well, this is definitely one of those things that proves the old adage of "one man's poison is another man's treasure"... my trial of the Cobra was interesting and I'm definitely grateful for the opportunity to try one, and it definitely gives a VERY close shave, but it isn't an effortless thing like the standard injectors... one second of not paying attention and it bit me worse than any razor since I started wetshaving. I'll stick to my SE and injectors :thumbup1:

Op
Congrats on your find. Only if I could be content with one razor things would be much simpler. The Hydro-Magic is one of the best around. Enjoy your journey.

I tried the Cobra. I bought it, tried all different kinds of blades, and then sold it. It was not the razor for me. I found it to be more difficult to use than a straight razor, nor was I impressed with the build quality.

I had the cobra, loved it and sold it. I got a great shave from it but I get the same shaves from any SE I've tried. I sold the cobra
and used the funds to buy a Gem JR. lather-catcher and an Ever-ready streamline and the visuals and fun factor is better. The shave from the cobra,
while good is no better than the shave from my G or E injector

It was the Cobra that took me away from straight razor shaving.

I got just as close of a shave without all of the maintenance.

I find that the Cobra and Vision have to be kept away otherwise I don't use any of my other razors. In fact, I have been seriously thinking about selling everything except these two razors so they have been banished from the shave den into a box that is put far far away from me

I had one of these and really wanted to like it. The mildest razor I've ever shaved with.
Are you refering to the razor pictured? Are the early repeaters considered as mild/ok shavers? I got a splendid black handled Golden 500 from Cpool222 but that I am afraid is the only Schick I got.

.

Yes. Not sure about how they compare to other repeater models in terms of aggressiveness. As has been said later models are more agressive and newer ones milder. But throw that ymmv in there and it all changes. They certainly are beauties. Your 500 should be fine. Stick a blade in there and go for it. I just found an M38 today so I'll have to see how that one shaves.

It's no surprise. Once you get into traditional wet-shaving, the inclination is to try everything, in marked contrast to the normal shaver who has one brand of razor (which necessarily limits his choice of blades) and one brand of shaving foam.

But if you start with a safety bar razor, then you want to try open comb and slant, then you may get a Gem in a haul of vintage razors and you try out SE shaving, which then leads to Injector shaving...

After a while, you realize that the Injector is both highly effective and very safe...

In my case, I decided to stop here and instead spend on soaps.

+1 Getting into tallow soaps now.

I think men like injectors for Freudian reasons. Something about putting that ridged cartridge stem into that awaiting open injector razor slot maybe? :001_cool:

If you're 100% injector, you're 100% squared away in my book. I love the Schicks.

Zagnut, love your sig line: "Cella only smells like marzipan. It does NOT taste like marzipan."

I tried it for the first time today; love the scent, love the performance. Didn't try to taste it!

Except for a two week Fat-Handle Tech run in March of 2012, I went Injector full-time in October 2011, I recently used my SE Clog-Pruf, which was my Favorite SE. The Clog-Pruf went a whole three shaves, I realized I loved my Injectors exclusively and sold all others off. I kept the Fat-Handle, two Krona DE's and a Gem G-Bar so my 4 y/o son can try them all and pick what he prefers.

My daily Injector of choice is the Hydro 500 & Plain-Jane J-1, and I prefer the Vintage Schick & Gillette Blades. I also have but don't use, two Adjustable Injectors, a Hydro-Magic, two I-1's, an E-3 & G-8, half of which are my son's:blush:, my only regret is getting rid of the two "Grips" to others starting with Injectors.

Hit or miss on quality, small cosmetic flaws, sort of like Merkur DE's,but I thought the Cobra shaved like a dream.

I was able to try a Cobra for a while,in terms of performance,my ER-Streamline,GEM OCMM and Shick G-Injector are the best 3 razors I currently own. They might be more razor for the money and have tons of old school cool, but in my opinion none of them shave as efficiently, effortlessely or quickly as a Cobra armed with a Feather Pro.
