Not sure I'd wear them on my way to work though. Just for places that are muddy. Maybe if I worked on a farm, then I'd wear them to work!
I keep them in the boot of my car and once at a particularly wet vintage car rally my Father spotted my Hunters and said that he was pleased to see that they had mud on them as "a clean pair of hunters is as much of a faux pas as a clean Range Rover".
I think he has a good point, if you are not going to use them for the purpose that they were intended (either a range rover or hunters) then don't have them. Use something else more suited to the situation instead (think these women who drive their kids around and do shopping in a range rover - it is just wrong, they only need a car. Take the range rover shooting and do off road stuff in it instead!). If you don't appreciate this stance I have something to change your mind...
Ahh, Hunter wellies! Not heard them called rain boots before.
As Triumph says above, I wouldn't wear them to work! For many years I had a pair of the Hunter Classics as he does but they finally gave up the ghost when the rubber perished.
These days I have a pair of their Argyll Short Knee boots, from the farming section. Hunter Argyll
I always found the standard Hunters a bit tight around the calves and these short ones suit me just fine. A bit wider around the tops too as they are meant to slip on and off easily. Same foot section though I thing the cleating on the soles is a bit heavier.
Mine come out when I'm playing at or visiting summer folk festivals as it's often raining here! For general country walking I prefer boots as they give more support.
I'd not heard them being called rain boots before either - must be something from over the pond!
As for Hunters being a bit tight round the calves I could not agree more. I could not get my calves into their regular classics which is exactly why I had to stump up the cash for ones from their balmoral range.
You don't visit the Cambridge folk festival do you? It is always sunny here! (if you believe that you will believe anything!)
Wellies is def. an english name for them that here in the states some people use but it can come across like you are just trying to be cool.
I'm not sure why it would be a big deal to wear into work. They just get worn from the car to the office, and my black pair dont stick out at all with a black pair of pants
