What's new

How would you rate this brush as to softness & scratchiness ?

I am talking to another member re his WTB of a brush I have. It's a 24mm Simpson Commodore X3 in Best Badger, nearly new. I have a hard time describing softness and scratchiness and this is how I responded to his question. I would appreciate it if others would rate this brush as to softness and scratchiness.

Thanks.

Question follows:
How soft is the feel? Although I face lather, I life softer brushes. The soft, non-scratchy, relaxed feel is what I am looking for. Since its in best badger and not silvertip, how is this aspect?

My evaluation
To my feel, when dry, the brush is soft and slightly scratchy.

I only have the X2 in Best Badger but no scratchiness whatsoever to me. Feels like velvet. Soft and relaxed is exactly how I would describe the knot. But quite capable of face lathering.

I have never had a Commodore, but my experience with Simpson's Best grade hair would tell me that your brush is probably dense, scrubby and quite soft at the tips.

Compared to denser, higher end Simpsons knots, the Commodore's (I enjoy an X1) is quite a bit softer and has more spring to it. Highly recommended if your buyer's not into scritch.
