How much should I pay for a good shape redtip and (I think) a 40's Super Speed?

$10 is really good for a red tip. They shouldn't charge any more than that for the 40's SS, and if you are buying both together, see if you can get them for about $15-$16 for both.

+1 These sound like fair prices so that if they do not "work for you" you can find them a new home and get your money back out of them. Good luck and show us what you buy with pics.

If you want them clean (no plate loss) I would expect to pay for a red tip (with most paint remaining) between $25 and $40; for the superspeed that is actually from the 40s, and not just the style of the 40s, probably the same, but closer to the $40.

With all of these newbies getting involved the price has gone up.

Today I got delivery of a 40s style superspeed that was $13 + shipping. Very clean, but I waited many moons for it.

Good luck

A $10 Red Tip is going to have paint loss and some brassing on the bottom of the base plate and guard bars . . . (that seems to be problem areas for mid-'50s Super Speeds) but should still be a good shaver. A "minty" RT with original paint will probably go for over $30.

1940-style Super Speeds are much more plentiful, and seem to have sturdier plating than the 1950's versions. Solid razors can still be found for well under $20 . . . but be prepared to pay more for excellent condition, bright shine, and no blemishes.
