How many shaves from a tub of Proraso soap?

Does anyone know how many shaves they can get from their tub of Proraso soap? (Menthol and eucalyptus if that makes a difference). Or for those that use it exclusively, how many months?

Dave might do a three pass shave, Joe might do a two pass shave. Rob might be learning to lather and make more than he needs - tough question.

If you are looking for a good value soap try Sterling soaps for $5.00 ea and for a bit of lxury $9.00 Razorock XX won't get you quite as many shaves but they will be sooooo much better.

Meh... I've got more than a dozen soaps and creams. XX is good, but I wouldn't call it better than Proraso green. I also have RR's St. Marie and find that it produces terrible lather.
Proraso is one of my favorites, even though I have soaps and creams costing as much as $30.

I've had about maybe 20-odd shaves from mine and I've barely scratched the surface, it has gone down maybe just over half a centimetre. I know the tub narrows as you go down but based on that it is probably good for the best part of anything between 150-200 shaves, maybe more.

I highly and I mean HIGHLY doubt you'll get 150+ shaves from a tub of 150 ml Proraso

maybe 1 pass shaves...but not 3 pass.

i have an excel sheet where i'm working on calculating my use of products by taking into account number of shaves and weight differences after a series of straight uses with that product. Depending on the type of product I typically use between 1-2 grams per shave. On the low end are triple milled soaps and on the high end are my croaps. I do a four pass shave and have an extra layer of lather sometimes to spread on my face post-shave. I approximate that any product will be used at about that rate so you'll get anywhere from 75 shaves on the low end to about 150 shaves on the high end of the tub of proraso. Call it an even 100 shaves.

Thank you for the information gentlemen. I'm guessing 3 months is a good average estimate. I'm preparing for IcemanXXXV's 2014 ultimate shave challenge and have my gear in place except for the year's supply of soap.
Razor - Gillette Fat Handle Tech (Canada 1932 patent triangle-hole).
Blade - Shark Super Chrome.
Brush - Omega Synthetic Barber Pole.
Soap - Proraso shave soap in the tub New Formula (Menthol and Eucalyptus).
Aftershave - Proraso splash New Formula (Menthol and Eucalyptus).
Balm - Nivea for Men Sensitive Skin After Shave Balm.

Nice effort!

I have a similar chart since I started tracking my shaves this year and 3017ing them.

As for 1-2g/use, I'm much higher then that on some stuff (creams and soft soaps) and the only hard soap I have used far was in line with your numbers. I am a 3 pass shaver with an extra layer on my face during clean/wash up.

what are you using to weigh them?

I weight the entire tub with product. Track my shaves and any test lathers. Then I take a weight of the empty tub, subtract from first weight and that is the exact weight of the product. Divide by the number of shaves and I get my amount/shave numbers.

For stuff like refill pucks, I simply plunk it on the scale and weight it, easy peasy. but for creams and products that come in a tub already I use the above.

It's quite simple as I am tracking my shaves for the 365 already. All it takes is a minute to weigh pre-use of the product and then post-use of it. I find it worthwhile to know how long a product actually lasts, instead of guessing. It may come in handy for when I reorder some stuff and want to know how long I will have with it or planning to use products at certain times of the year.

Wow, brucered. This is incredibly scientific of you and really well thought out. If you don't mind my asking, what is your profession? With an exacting analytical mind like yours, I'd imagine you are either in Finance or Engineering.

My entirely unscientific method was assuming I've probably had 20-something shaves so far from the tub and it looks like maybe 10% used and that's with 3 or 4 pass shaves.

once you are done, add up how many times you have shaved with it and let us know.

again, maybe you do only use 1g/shave, but it's unlikely.

many times people think they get 3y from a jar of MdC, but if you use it daily for a month or longer, you will soon see how much you actually use and may be surprised.

soaps do not last a year in use, they don't even last 1/2 a year. This is based on my experience, my shaves, my lather as well as reading and following the 3017 thread where members are using soaps exclusively from start to finish.

if you can can get 150 shaves from a jar of 150ml Proraso, more power to you.
