How many laps on a touch up strop?

My Rennaisance(sp) was pulling a bit and left me with some irritation tonight. I would say it was poor technique on my part which has dulled the blade a bit. I have a paddle strop with red paste on one side and I'd like to try and regain the edge with this before I send it out to a pro. What is the minimum and maximum number of laps I'll need to do on the strop before I try it again? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't characterize a minimum and maximum number of laps. Its whatever it takes to do the job. It could be 5 and it could be 500. Usually after doing a reasonable number and you are not getting the result you want you would normally go with a lower grit material. What is reasonable? To me about 60-100 but that depends on what the edge looks like and how dull it has gotten.

I agree. I wouldn't want to do a whole lot of laps on a pasted hanging strop, but I'd be fine with a paddle strop

10 works for me.. but like some of the other gents have mentioned,it might need more or less. You have to do trial runs and feel it out for yourself
