What's new

How many "consumables" do you use in your usual shave?

Not counting capital investments like razors, brushes, bowls, etc...

Sounds crazy but I use 7!

1. Glycerine-based soap to wash face and leave on beard area
2. Jojoba oil as a per-shave treatment
3. The blade
4. Shaving soap
5. Alum bar
6. Witch hazel
7. Aftershave splash

1. Glycerine-based soap to wash face with
2. The blade
3. Shaving soap or cream
4. Aftershave splash

Not much less than your list

Water and lots of it!
Face Scrub (Clean and Clear Morning Burst is my favorite)
preshave oil
cream or croap
blade
alum (often)
Hazel
Glycerin (mixed with the Hazel)
AS (sometimes)
Moisturizer (always)

Often I also add a cream and glycerin to my soap/croap to make an uberlather.

Missing something?

1. Distilled water
2. Soap
3. Alum
4. Aftershave

I almost listed my styptic pencil, but I rarely cut myself anymore so I haven't used it in weeks.

1. Hot shower Water
2. "Clean & Clear" deep action exfoliating scrub
3. Hot Shower Water
4. "Renewing moroccan argan oil" hair shampoo (hand me down from SWMBO)
5. Hot Shower Water
6. "Suave Professional sleek hair conditioner" leave-on for 2-3 minutes as I body wash(another SWMBO hand me down)
7. Hot Shower Water
8. "Somerset's" or "Shave Secret" shaving oil. Leave on for 2-3 minutes as I towel dry and begin my lathering from soaking bowl of...
9 "Van Der Hagen Deluxe" shave soap (heavy beard) with aloe and shea butter.
10. "Gillette 7 o'clock" sharp edge in a Merkur 34c HD 3-4 passes
11. COLD sink water splash and COLD soaked towel patting/blotting rinse. (no wiping)
12. "Aqua Velva" Ice blue Aftershave splash
13. "The Real Shaving Co." Post shave soothing balm
14. "equate" Complete beauty face lotion SPF 15 sunscreen

Do I win?

EDIT : I should add some Alum block and Witch Hazel I guess. Never tried either of those.

(I think you may disqualified for trying to slip in non-shaving related products and padding your total with repeating the same products. The judges frown on that sort of thing.)

Tap water (maybe arguable that this isn't a consumable, as it returns to the water cycle)
shaving soap or cream
Aftershave
The natural gas to heat the tap water
The plastics that went into the fabrication of the containers for the soap/cream, and the associated energy sources to make them (natural gas, coal at the power plant that produced the electricity for the factory)
Gasoline and oil products used in the delivery of the items to the store where I bought them
The same for the farms and ranches that made the food that the delivery people had to eat in order to live long enough to make the deliveries
By extension, the factories that produced the vehicles for the delivery and store personnel
I could go on.

LOL. But actually minus the repeats of water, I actually do use shampoo and conditioner on my beard as part of prep. :)

1. Nivea pre-shave face wash M/W/F, Williams or Stirling earlier gen soap lather/soak and rinse off Tu/Th
2. Mike's Natural
3. Blade
4. Witch Hazel
5. Clubman
6. Nivea ASB

1) Hot shower with conditioner. Used to use Pears face soap bar but I found I get a reaction when combing all there other things
2) Prorasso Pre/Post or Razorock professional shave lube
3) Blade
4) shave soap/cream
5) Menthol spiked with hazel
6) Aftershave
7) Facial lotion

1. soap or cream
2. alum
3. witch hazel
4. as balm
5. blade (if using a shavette instead of a straight)

i don't always use all three aftershave treatments so between 2 and 5 consumables. i also wouldn't count cologne as part of the shave.

Shave soap/cream
Aftershave

Next morning, cologne.
Extremely rarely, alum.

I'd be tempted to include the blade, but it's really a stretch to refer to a straight blade as "consumable" unless you are REALLY bad at honing.

I've been known to do this:

1. Proraso pre/post followed by hot shower
2. CF preshave
3. CF shaving cream
4. Tobs preshave oil between passes
5. Whitch hazel/tea tree/aloevera-mixture followed by coldwater rinse
6. Alum block followed by coldwater rinse
7. Floids blue
8. Skinfood
9. CF aftershave balm
10. Mühle moisturizing cream before going to bed

I know this is kind of stupid, and I only do it when i have spare time on my hands and really want to enjoy a long shave.

Normally, I do this:

1. Hot shower followed by CF preshave
2. MWF stick, facelather
3. Whitch hazel/tea tree/aloe vera-mixture followed by alum if I see red spots. Coldwater rinse
4. Skin food followed by an aftershave balm

1. Hot water pre-rinse
2. Homemade Shaving Soap
3. Feather Blade
4. Post shave shower

A hot water pre-rinse, followed by a good soap properly applied, and a sharp blade used with a light touch, makes everything easy.
