What's new

How many brushes do you own?

I'm a newbie to wet shaving (going on 8 weeks). So far I have 2 brushes. A hand me down Dux boar brush (first brush) from my mother when my father passed away and pure grey badger from Vulfix (an entry level brush to wet my pallet in badger brushes). I have ordered The Simpson Colonel x2l and the Kent BK 4 for my upgrade (could not decide which on so I got both). So I was wondering if 4 brushes is over the top?

Over the top? Nah. Wait until you start restoring brushes. I've got 8 brushes at the moment. 3 purchased new and 5 restores. I've got 3 additional awaiting restoration. It's a sickness, I know.

Billyd... Welcome to the forum! Let me see, you have two and are considering 4 and are wondering if that is "over the top"? You are no where near the top let alone over it! There are many ways to look at these questions. Need vs. want? You only "need one brush, razor, soap, pair of shoes, car, etc. You likely want variety in life so only you (or wife if married) can determine the limit.

I have 8 brushes I think and 4 of them get regular use. I like to switch off on brushes, razors, blades, soaps, aftershaves just for variety and different experience. Some fellas use a different brush each day. I'd say get what you want as long as your bills are getting paid and the kids are fed.

I had one for 10 years, which I restored three times in that period. In the last 3 months, I went from 1 brush to 6 brushes.

You're just getting started! I have six at the house with one on the way. They range from my grandfather's brush to a Kent BK4. I have an Omega 50014 on the way which I hope will be it for a while as far as brushes go. Now I want a scuttle!

I am about six weeks in and I have three. My first was a Tweezerman, which I still like but find a little too scritchy for face lathering. I did some research and decided that the Simpson Colonel X2L (in best badger) would be versatile enough to accommodate my evolving lathering style.

Less than twelve hours after ordering the Simpson, West Coast Shaving sent me an email saying that the B&B Essential boar brush was back in stock.
I already knew that I wanted to try a boar since almost everyone here seems to love them. I figured, what the heck, for $20 I can be one of the cool kids too!

So no, I don't think 4 is too many.

Did you know they make the B&B in other colors besides yellow? :001_cool:

Only 14 right now, but I am working own some new. I made all mine myself, so they aren't too expensive. Love a good brush.

7, I think
(VDH, SOC boar, TGN 18mm restore, TGN 24mm restore, VL horse, VL horse/badger, B&B boar)
Yes, 7.
And one handle and one 18mm TGN best. But I can never find both at the same time.

So I'd definitely say that more than 8 is excessive. Definitely.

Only two, an EJ pure badger at home and a TOBS pure badger that I keep at the gf's place for when I stay over there. Still only one razor as well. The only AD I've caught so far is software.
