how long to break in boar brushes?

So I have had a B&B boar brush in smoke since wcs was selling them. I use it atleast once a week but it just hasn't seemed to break in yet. I see alot of pics of peoples boars and the bristles are all frayed and super soft looking and mine still looks basically new. Is there anyway to speed up the process?

In my experience boar brushes take longer to break in and some boars take longer than others. My B&B brush took a lot longer than the SOC boar brush I own. However, I always got a great shave from the B&B brush. Here is photo of the B&B brush I have had for several months.

One thing to get the bristles frayed is to use it more often. Also, I tend to soak the boar brush in hot water for a longer period of time.

Here is a photo of a SOC boar brush that has been in my rotation for five months.

Boars break in through wet/dry cycles. When the bristles dry, the tips begin to split. It can take anywhere from two weeks to eight weeks to get a brush fully broken in. Could you post a close-up of your brush showing the tips? In my experience Omegas tend not to splay and get as messy looking as Semogues. The knots just stay tighter.

My B&B boar took about a month of every day use to fully break in. But it's appearance didn't change all that much. The bristles barely splay any more than they did right out of the box. The ends have all split though. So the overall shape and appearance hasn't really changed, but if you look at the tips there is quite a difference and they look more... I don't know "fuzzy" from a short distance.

I've had my new Omega boar only 3 days, and the tips are already beginning to split. My secret? Once a day practice lathering over 220 grit sandpaper, followed-up with a hot blow-dry. Amazingly fact break-in.

My Omega Pro 49 only took a couple of weeks to break in. My Semogue Owners Club never did break in after months and months of use and many extra lathering/drying cycles (I ended up selling it).

Some days, some weeks, some months. It really depends. The key is letting it fully dry out before re-using. Try to use it every other day whether it be for shaving or not. Even if you just soak and palm lather then rinse and put away. This will help the bristles splay. Stick with it.

Thx everyone. Yeah mines a little fuzzy at the ends too and coincidentally I was comparing how it looks to more like how the doc's look. Its not a bad shave at all I just thought it would keep getting softer. Ok obiwan I'm going to start doing that for a while.

Well I just got a Semogue 1305 and out of the box it wasn't bad at all. Patient I am so I know it will only get better. Put it to P-160 and baboom! Face lather city!Just as nice to use as my 22mm TGN Badger finest. A good brush. and a BIG THANK YOU to Phil at Bullgoose for his warp speed delivery( ordered on Mon. got it today{Yay for livin' close}).
