How long does it take for a boar brush to get soft?

Tonight was my first wet shave!:biggrin1: It went not bad, but I have to practice a lot more I think.

The brush I used, Omega boar brush, was pretty hard. Does it soften up after a while, and how long does it take?

Thanks,

Mr. Bazinga

Yes, they do soften up, and it takes about a month of daily use to completely break in. They get better and better as you use them.

I have a Semogue 620 that was pretty soft (when wet and lathered) right out of the box. Now the tips are starting to split and it's really nice. One of my favorite brushes.

I have several Omega brushes and they seem to vary based on models. The pro series brushes (I own both the 10048 and 10098) with the monster sized knots seem to be pretty well softened right out of the box,. I have a 10810 that has been a bear to break in. Not only was it the only Omega that smelled horrible when I opened the package, but it was so stiff and produced some terrible lather. It was so bad that I placed it in the cupboard for several months as I have enough brushes to go around. I recently pulled it out again hoping that face lathering with Tabac would finally break it. After all, Tabac is almost impossible to get bad face lather with. Fingers crossed.

I read somewhere that to expedite the break in process you can make lather on off days and after you clean it and rinse it off you can use a blow dryer and the heat should help make the process faster. I think I used that method on an older Omega but chose to go a slower route on other brushes. I don't mind the wait. It's usually worth it

Hmm, there is no type-number on it. Picture:

I suggest you let it fully dry by lathering it up every 2nd day. Should take a month or so as mentioned above.

+1 ... the drying part of the cycle is the most important part of the break-in process. This is when the bristles split and that's what makes the brush soft and helps it to retain more water.

Mine took about a month or so, although not an Omega, but still a boar. It gets softer, indeed. First couple of weeks I lathered in a bowl in the days when I needn't shave :) But then read somewhere that the drying process is vital, so I let it dry. So leave it when you're not using it, great advice folks.
