How long do brushes typically last?

My synthetic has been losing a few hairs (usually one a week) and I heard that synthetics are more durable than animal hair brushes.

So how long do brushes last assuming one uses them every day?

Really? That's awfully strange. Which brush model do you have? Granted, I have the big Omega 346235 synthetic badger, but it hasn't lost a single bristle so far.

My Dad has a synthetic brush he doesn't do any special cleaning with it, hanging to dry and he has had it for over 30 years.

If you have a few brushes and rotate them, let them air dry and clean them with dish soap and vinegar every few months they should last a long time.

I would think that any synthetic brush that is properly washed and dry after every shave should last minimum 10 years. I also agree that is not normal to keep constantly loosing hair every week. My experience is that brushes loose some hair during the first shavings and later may loose one here and another one there, but every week looks a bit too much to me.

To answer, I use the Body Shop's brush. I do wash and dry it after every shave.

TBH I don't think I'm that rough on it while building lather...

Sounds like something that should be addressed to the maker of the brush, or at least to the vendor your bought it from.

I have a Hoffritz badger brush that is 30+ years old and still is in great shape.

A good badger brush can last a very long time. My grandfather had one that lasted decades and it was around when I was a young boy.

this was a topic that an AOS salesman brought up to me when talking about the 5 different brush hair grades they have.
to paraphrase his sell, he said that the silvertips would physically last like 12 to 15 years while the fine would last about 1-3
I can't remember exactly and I don't want to put words in his mouth, but they said
trial brush would last a couple weeks to months
sampler brush would last about 6 months to 18 months
fine brush would last ~1-3 years
super brush would last ~ 3-5
silvertip ~12-15

i don't know if any of this was true, but it sounded like an upsell technique.

I would think it would be how well the knot was glued, but i really have no idea and little experience...

Assuming conservatively that there's a couple thousand hairs in your brush, at that rate you have a decade or so before you need to worry!
