How interchangeable are Gillette Tech top caps?

I recently picked up my first DE razor of of ebay the other day and didn't realize until I got it that its kind of a Franken-razor.

The handle, blade plate(triangle slots), box, and blades all seem to point to a razor made in 1946.

But the top cap looks to be from a different razor.

Looking at other razors from the same time frame I have not seen any with the polished Gillette logo.

In use the razor seems to be a bit more... harsh, than I was expecting it to be.

I would not call it aggressive cutting my beard but aggressive in nicking my face.

Admittedly I have only tried one brand of blade so far (local store branded Persona) so its possible its just the blades and this razor combination, but I was under the impression that the Tech's were pretty mild.

Or it could be my technique, this is the first DE I have used.

I guess my question is how interchangeable are the top caps for Gillette Tech razors?
Is having the wrong top cap causing the blade to be at the wrong angle/too much exposure, etc...????

If someone has both an original mid-late 40's Tech and a Tech with the polished Gillette logo could you compare them and see if there are size/geometry differences?

Thanks!

I guess I was wrong in thinking its from a different razor, I had done some searching and hadn't seen one like these but I suppose I hadn't looked hard enough.

So I guess I'll just have to admit its probably my technique :)

Thanks again.
