How do you take care of your Shave soaps?

I have a question. So i bought a bowl of Tabac a couple months ago. and was wondering if the puck of soap is supposed to have cracks in it after so many uses.

How do you use and take care of your soaps, specifically tabac. (example: I wet my brush and then swirl it into the dry puck of soap and then leave it be)

My Tabac and my MWF both developed cracks. I think I was putting too much water on the puck to help it soften. It didn't hurt it, its just not pretty.

thanks, helps a lot.
what about glycerin soaps, such as col. conks?

Do they also develop cracks?

I don't know. I would think that they could develop cracks but I don't think that they do very often. I don't have any evidence to back this up, it's just what I think.

My MWF started to swell up, basically it was absorbing the water. It still gives me a great shave. I don't soak the puck anymore because I don't want it to become bloated.

I buy the aluminum cans with screw tops from WCS for 3 bucks piece. Then I just buy the soap refills and put them in the cans. I like the lids, they keep out dust between uses.
I have institute karite, provence de sante, and tabac soaps. None of them have ever cracked.
I face lather with little water getting into the can, though.

I've only gotten cracks in my MWF, when I inadvertently left the top off all day. To fix it, I put a little water on top of the soap, spilled it out after a minute or two, and closed the top -- the cracks were gone the next morning. IMO, the cracks formed from letting it dry out too quickly after it's been wet. Rewetting it allowed the soap to absorb enough moisture to expand a little, so the cracks disappeared. Either way, I do not believe the cracks would greatly affect the performance.

Good luck!
