What's new

How do these brushes compare?

Hello, I'm fairly new to wet shaving but I'm not totally sold on the brush I'm using. Right now I have the B&B essential boar brush and I find it to be just a tad more rough on my face than I'd ideally want. I'm not ready to take the plunge into a real expensive brush. The characteristics I'd like in a brush would be something a little softer than my current one but stiff enough to face lather soaps occasionally while bowl lathering creams at other times. I've been looking at an Edwin Jagger Best 946sds after reading some positive reviews about it. What do you think? Does anyone have any experience with this brush?

How long have you been using the boar brush? It usually takes about 25-30 uses to properly break in a boar brush and get the hairs to split. Once broken in, the difference is night and day.

I've made about 20 lathers with the boar brush. It definitely looks more broken in than when I first got it. I like that the boar exfoliates nicely too. My idea was just to go a tad softer. It sounds like I might need to wait a while longer. I'm still curious to know if there'd be a noticeable difference between the two brushes.

Boar brushes take at least 90 days to break in.

have you used that brush for 90 days yet?

If not..... get lathering...

Re-evaluate it in 3 months and tell us how wonderfully soft it is :001_smile

For a soft face lather, a 24x48 or so silvertip from Whippeddog would do the trick beautifully, and a finest will bowl lather very well
