how do i choose a brush...any recommendations?

i've been doing this since septermber or maybe august. i got the vdh kit and have been using everything in it. i've gone through 2 pucks of vdh soap. i love it. it lathers quickly. no problems. ran into a problem with col conk. it wouldn't lather to save my life. col conk is history. then i thought it might be the brush. but since i've been using the one in the vdh kit, i don't know. and i have nothing to compare it to.

i know people have their favorite brushes. i've read the info on the different types of brushes. but the only thing that did was tell me the differences. what i'd like to know is, how do i decide upon a brush? as far as i know, the only thing the brush does is put the lather on my face. if that's all, then i'll keep what i got. if there's more...what is it? and can people suggest what type of brush i should get? leave it up to me and i'll buy the cheapest thing i can get my hands on cause afterall, as far as i can see, a brush is a brush.

note: because i'm not working, anything more than about $30 is not possible.

If you are getting good results from the boar brush you have I would say leave it alone. Spending more on a badger brush is about luxury in my opinion. Badger hair is generally softer feeling and might make a finer lather but that is up for debate.

I use badger brushes exclusively and I'm very fond of them. That said, they are not required for a good shave. It is also hard to get a good badger brush for under $30. Not impossible, but much shopping is required.

I can see where being unemployed would definitely put a crimp in the AD spending. That having been said, why change? You're getting good results with the VDH brush and soap you're using, and the VDH soap is cheap, so if twere me, I'd stick with what I've got until financial circumstances allow otherwise...

Once again, YMMV...

I agree, why even bother? Have you ever tried using something beside Col Conk and VDH?

ok, i'll just leave well enough alone.

not yet. someone on here is sending me some samples of t&h. other than that, not sure of what to try. i could try more or less everything that people speak highly of here but then again i don't wanna be spending loads of money trying to find out which soap is better for me.
