Horse hair shaving brushes/knots

S

Sydney Guy

There's a Turkish seller on eBay who has them. Hog bristle brushes aren't very popular in Muslim countries, strangely enough. No idea how they perform.

for horsehair you can't beat the quality of vie-long brushes from spain...giftsandcare.com has good prices, service and selection

I noticed! Between me, Wil, you, malocchio and LarryAndro, we'll hopefully try all the horses out there yet!

I believe your.... 13723 is it?..... has the same horsehair knot as the 13061 I have, but a different handle. Mine is still a bit prickly beyond the tips, but I'm wearing it down slowly. Very slowly. How do you like the brush?

Still breaking it in but liking it so far. Didn't have much stink out of the box and picked up a nice bloom after just a few shaves.

I definitely noted your comments on the mane/tail blend but so far haven't noticed much prickliness from the tail hairs. Much softer than my pure badger (your badger may vary), but with only 3 brushes under my belt what do I really know?

" Gifts & Care" : Exellent Service !! When ordering just 1 item-- use the Discount Code 'SMF POSTAL' -- and get - 4 Euros off shipping.....

I just ordered the Vie-Long 13061 from Phil at BullGoose.com. Its topically $40, however when I asked him about a competitor who has the brush for $32.95, he said he would bet the price and give it to me for $32! Phil also asked me to pass the discount code onto you all looking at this thread. If the horse bug bit anyone else this is a great deal.

Discount code;
VL13061

Nice! Wish I had something like that when I bought mine - every dollar saved, is another earned for another boar. That'll be a good deal for a wonderfully-sized, quality horse brush.

Vie Long make a horse hair brush. I've got one in my collection. It's a very good little brush. The best way to describe it, is that it's in between boar and badger.

Exactly, sometimes it pays to ask for a discount! I figure the $8 saved is another tub of MamaBears :w00t:

I have used a horse hair brush all my life except the last year, when I found this forum, the badger, the boar and the crazy traditional shaving world (I love this game). I buyed this brushes to my hairdresser or barber.

In order to try a spanish horse hair brush I recommend a professional model that you can find in the Gifts&Care web site. Cheap, robust, versatile, like a draught horse. The link: http://www.giftsandcare.com/en/catalog/the-pleasure-of-shaving/barber-brushes.html

Are called Brocha Barbera (Professional brush). This kind of brushes has been used for the barbers in Spain all the life. I recomend too to choose the hair extra model because Vie-Long blunts the hair to get a softer finished. The differents colors (black & brown) doesn't matter, are the real horse's colors.

I have purchased one recenetly and I'm very happy with this stuff. Lathering very good, is very soft in the face but a little stiffy. Better with creams but works very well with soaps. Some pics of my old and new horse hair brush:

The last one before I known the traditional shave (10 years old):

Good to know. If I had read your post a month ago, I would probably have gotten that brush! Either way, I'm happy with the horse.

Kamamuri, is that brush a 20mm knot? It looks bigger than that, but the link you sent only has 20mm knots that seem like they might be on the smaller end of things.

Yes it does, I guess it is a big brush with a narrow waist

YES! I want to add that several guys that posted threads about their non vie-long brushes complained about foul odor and lots of dye coming off the first couple of pre shave shampoos...you will not get this problem with the vie-longs...those are real horse hairs, sanitized by steam pressure and leaving the natural color of the horse INTACT...if you want a real horse, get a vie-long !!
