What's new

Honed 1st ebay straight yesterday

Purchased 2 ebay str8s and started the long, read that longggg, process of taking slightly chipped edges to 1K bevel set. The first blade took 1 1/2 hours on the 1K to get the chips out and to set the bevel, while the second took about an hour. Shaved with the 1st razor this morning which turned out quite well. The second blade, after honing, I found a small hair line crack from the cutting edge up about 1/4 inch. The crack was so small that the only way I found it was to feel with a finger and then look under magnification. So far I'm batting 500!

eBay specials come with risk. If you do not pay too much, then the risk is manageable. Sometimes you really luck out. I view all these purchases as somewhat risky. I am glad you got a really good one on your first try!

So, how did it shave?? We cannot calculate your OBP without knowing how it shaved!

Because of the amount of time spent on the 1K, the bevel set was a no brainer. The sharpness and the resulting shave were worth the effort. Very easy to pop whiskers and the closeness was very close to BBS.

Well done you, you can get decent razors for little cash on the bay, some work, some don't, yours did, so good for you and enjoy your shaves,

I hate those hairline cracks. I have two or three like that, one of which cost me $60. Grrr. . . :mad3:

Larry- Hope my honing skills will approach yours in the next few years! Thanks for your help in getting me started. Would still rather buy your blades.

There you go...you have ID-ed your practice razors...you will learn a lot from these two and stick to just these two. Don't extend your practice to nice str8s

Congrats:thumbup1:

Great job! I know i'm having fun learning the process of honing. Even when it doesn't go right i learn alot. Keep up the good work
