What's new

Here I go again...

Well, I have decided to try straights again...for the 3rd time...and this time I am determined to keep with it. I gave up before because I thought my beard was too tough. I know that was me lying to myself, so I am going to try it again.

Thanks to a B&Ber for fixing up two straights for me to get going with...now I need a strop to appear on the BST.

I also thank Rob Slagle for going down this journey, I will rely on his thread to keep me motivated.:wink2:

You can do it.... I tried and failed the first time mainly because I used my DE's as a crutch... Once I was able to complete several shaves with straights only, it just clicked. Shaving with both hands equally well was major to the equation as well. I will admit though that this Fall I came across a smattering of old Gillettes that I used for a stretch of time out of nostalgia.... Pretty
much since around Christmas Eve past, I have been total straight razor shaves.

Like anything worthwhile, it doesn't come easy but it is well worth it.

As one who is fairly new to straights, all I can say is to keep at it. My first few times were a bit rough, and I did cut myself quite a few times.

It just seemed to all at once come together, and my last couple of shaves have been quite nice. You will learn from your mistakes, and it'll be like all of a sudden everything will just seem to work. Today's shave will very nice, except I did give myself a very tiny nick under my nose. That seems to be the one last problem area for me. :001_tongu

Somehow I don't think that your beard will be too tough for the straights once you get them back... But please do keep us posted on your progress.
