Herban Cowboy Shave Kit

Has anyone purchase this yet? I just picked one up on eBay. It contains the soap, badger brush and clay bowl (w/ shipping totaled $24.99).

After buying it, I came here and found that the soap got pretty dismal reviews (I should know better than to search reviews AFTER clicking submit :001_rolle). Anyway, damage done. The reason I'm inquiring is because if anyone has bought this, I'm curious to know if the brush is of a decent quality.

I know this is a bit of a shot in the dark, but if anyone has any insight, I'd be most appreciative.

Actually, not a badger brush. Their products are Vegan. It is either plant bristle, or synthetic.

Sorry you paid that much for it... you could have gotten the same VDH kit (brush, bowl, soap) from Walmart for about $8.

If you are into the whole vegan thing, there are many synthetic brushes available and glycerin based soaps.

But not too worry, your wisdom about all things shaving will increase exponentially if you hang around here long enough.

I overpaid a lot on my first few vintage razors.

Thanks for the heads up about this one.

I have also seen this one on eBay and considered it briefly. :blushing: It seemed like a good value, and the mug and brush are quite nice looking. However, 'nice looking' was not quite enough to tip it into the 'must have' category.

It would be at least worth trying the badger brush out, IMHO.

You might want to check out the "reviews" section of this forum if you are going to make some purchases, especially if you are a just starting out. It will save you a lot of money and help you make your shave den top notch. Herban Cowboy soaps are reviewed on there as well.

Dont kick yourself too much in the butt...we've all been there where we see something "Shave related" and jump a bit too early when we know we should have done the research!

not true. The brush they offer is boar bristle.

I'm guessing the OP bought the "special limited edition" kit, with the brush and mug made by Bill Campbell. The only part of the kit that appears to be made by herban cowboy is the soap

I can't find anything else on that brush by itself, so you are going to have to tell us. Heres hoping its was a good purchase

I'm resurrecting this old thread because this kit is still out there on the 'bay (showing 248 left at this moment) at an even better reduced price of $19.99 & free shipping.

I bought it primarily for the cool mug and figured the brush was also worth a shot. Based on all the comments here and elsewhere, I never even considered trying the soap, which has been relegated to the depths under the sink, to be dredged up if I run out of bath soap sometime. Happily, the mug is every bit as nice as I had hoped and the (badger) brush, despite being far and away the worst shedder I have ever encountered, has finally settled down and is a very decent, handsome scrubby little thing.

Just a side note, for a company that plays up its organic, green aspects, this thing is overpackaged to a fare-thee-well. But the upside is that I can't imagine that even the roughest handling would cause any damage in transit (except maybe to shake out a few of those infernal loose badger hairs).

I have learned to really like the soap. Does lather but absorbed quickly but still moisturize and lubricates well for my shave. Also like that I can see my face and avoid any blemishes that might get nicked. Smell is pleasant and not overpowering. Price is great for soap at Whole Foods.

I purchased the set early in my "buy everything" phase of Shaving. The soap was horrible, I chucked it. I gave the brush to my kid so he can "shave" with me. The mug however is a different story. I think it is well made, just the right size for making lather and has a comfortable grip.

Live and learn. Not the worst mistake I've made and I am sure it's not the last.

But the "Buy Everything" phase is more fun.

for a while, I thought I would find the next "Swede" product that no one has discovered!

Then SWMBO brought me back to reality.
