Help with SWMBO...Too much stuff

So I got married last May, and now the wife thinks I have too much shaving stuff. I'll admit over the last two months or so, I have laid in a few more supplies, but nothing too extreme, you know, some tubes of cream, couple hundred blades, restored some brushes, normal day to day stuff, I mean ya know? All the guys are doing right??!?

So back me up here, this is not that much stuff, right? If you can throw up some photos along with these to let me show the wife how I'm not obsessed, and I show far more restraint than other members... I'll do the same:001_cool::thumbup:

Hardly any brushes, and that is all of them, I don't count the ones my daughter uses that I gave her:

We have an older home, with a small bath, so we each get a shelf. Here's mine:

And of course, in rotation blades:

Blades about to go into rotation:

Slightly bigger box, I know...

And then of course the back storage in the bedroom closet:

I think that's everything. I think I have shown restraint, and my stash is pretty modest.

Looks like about an average wet shaving hoarders stash to me

I think you might be willing to get rid of a brush if your wife got rid of a pair of shoes or blouse.

Not to say *** for tat but putting it into perspective you could easily slim down to a manageable rotation while she goes shoeless and topless.

I'm just hoping you don't shave with the foot soap. and compared to some members' hoarding, that's still a manageable amount of kit. It may help to spread it throughout the house, so its not concentrated and obvious. Good luck!

It's a slippery slope if you cave in...

My wife asked me to sell some of my headphones when were dating, so I did...to pay for moving expenses. Thing is I miss my headphones dearly and now I regret selling them. Since I sold my headphones, my wife suddenly feels empowered to get rid of my stuff. I've stood my ground since then and now she knows not to bug me about getting rid of any of my stuff.

Do it on your terms.

Her reaction is typical, but your stuff is not excessive at all. It's a lot less than mine for example. I honestly think that as long as you stay confined to your shelf and keep the rest of the stuff out of the way and in tidy storage, that it's a non-issue. Or should be at least.

She probably thinks it's "just shaving" and your collection is pretty silly, but it's wise not to challenge women on their logic over issues like this. If you bring up her shoes, clothes, purses etc. you'll get in trouble. :p

Used to have fun with Commander Yellow Pantyhose
Just tell your wife "at least I'm not into cars/guns/boats/etc." Just pick something manly that a lot of dudes are into and much much more expensive that shaving. If she sees it as a hobby, and not as shaving supplies, she might be more tolerant. Works for me anyways...

That's just there cuz it was on sale for $1 a box at Kroger. And after I do any kind of physical labor on the rent houses and wear work boots for 8 hours or more, that stuff is a miracle worker. Glad to see you guys see it my way. Of course, I didn't show you what's under the sink.:wink2::wink2:

That's actually not too bad. I don't see a lot of razors but I don't know how many you have either.

There are quite a few threads out there - here's one. There was one thread in particular where one took up an entire master bedroom - and I mean, a large bathroom. I think I've seen it here in the past few months.

I think Mark1966 had a collection of razors to sell in BST that was legendary and what was more than you have just in razors alone. Worth checking out just to see it if the pics are still there.

But if you're still guilty on it, can I call dibs on the M&F brush?

I have about 16, two are out on loan, my Gold fat handled tech and my red tip. Only eight are out though, there are three or four injectors, an old style, a back up slant, and something else I am forgetting. I've given away about 4 or 5 since we got married, plus a couple of brushes, an MWF puck and ceramic dish...I think she really just got a little overwhelmed by the sudden stocking up I have been doing, I mean you know, 2012 and all and the Mayan's. When I look at the pictures of the drawer storage, I get the shakes thinking I only have twelve bottles of glass Aqua Velva left...Plus, part of the top drawer is dedicated to watch cleaning juice and cloths, but that is another story...

Well, It's a heck of a lot bigger than mine!

Lets see:

1 strop
1 black badger brush
1 JR Torrey Straight
1 half tube Proraso Green
1 half tube Ingrams
3 tubs or RR, in various scents.
1 Bottle of skin bracer
1 bottle of Oldspice.
1 stick of alum
1 styptic pencil
1 half bottle of Limes Skinfood.

I am on a purchase sabbatical. Until I run through current stock.

I say, if she knew you had this hobby before marriage, it isn't fair to ask you to change your hobbies without her doing the same. When my friend moved, his wife threw out most of his stuff has "hoarding" while keeping every piece of hers, sad thing to see. ^_^ So, I agree with the above, trade. Don't buy more stuff that isn't needed as replacement, she doesn't buy more stuff that isn't needed the same way. Sell what you don't use fairly often, she sells/gives away what she doesn't wear at least once a week, or once every two weeks.

Also, as others said, this isn't a huge amount of stuff compared to some of the things people here have. Oh, and don't forget to make the argument that your hobby is an investment in the future. Think of all the money any male children you have will save, as you have shaving supplies for their lives as well! That right there is a college fund worth of savings.
