Help trying to Identify this razor please

I have the chance to buy this Gillette razor, however I cannot identify it, I don't know if is really worth it or not (although it looks really nice).

Is not on Ebay, so I can't give further details on it.

Thanks in advance.
Pablo.

I don't know what kind it is. Maybe the writing on the case would provide more details?

The fundamental question underneath "Is it worth it?" is really how much does it cost?

$10? Yeah, I'd say so.

$20? I don't know. There appears to be some plate loss on the head, and I can't tell from the photo, but does the tooth in the upper left appear to be bent?

The handle should polish up nicely though, or at least one would hope so.

It is an ABC (American Button Company) Pocket Edition. It looks as if it used to be silver plate so it should be able to be polished up nicely. During the early reign of the Old Types, Gillette contracted out with ABC to produce several variations of the Pocket Edition.

This set, even in the less than optimal condition, is easily worth more than $20. $40 is a possibility, but work would be needed to bring it out. In the present state I would say $30-$35 is more than fair.

+1
I will only add that it is probably THE highest sought after of all the Gillette ABC PEs. It is a very early PE since it has the latch open instead of the button - this makes it pretty rarer than usual. As well it is The Empire design - also pretty rare. The original velvet lining has been replaced and it looks like all the gold has been worn off. Still a good restoration buy at $30-35.

Ahh an Empire edition with the matching razor!!! Get it!! I've got the case but alas no razor. I see a lot of the cases on da Bay, but the matching razor is a bit more rare. What did these folks do? Lose their razors but keep the box??

Thanks guys! I didn't know it was that rare! I mean I knew it might be something interesting, but not that much.

I got it yesterday, and I managed to lower the price, so I got it for $32 including shipping, all the way from Chile to the U.K.! I think that was a pretty good price.

I'll post some pictures of the pre and post polishing.

What do you guys suggest is best??

I've read something about brasso, others say baking soda, with paste, then others suggest silvio and things like that.

But what you guys suggest would be the best and less abrasive method?.
