help requested in identifying a gillette, please?

excuse my limited nomenclature but I am seeking to identify a particular gillette safety razor. Here goes. It is vintage and a three piece, but with a difference. While the normal three piece has a top and bottom head that screws into the handle, this model resembles the modern two piece and the bottom of the head is connected to the handle. The top of the head has a shaft attached that is screwed into the handle via the bottom of the handle which turns. Can anyone tell me the model(s) I am looking for? Thank you very much!

A picture is the best way to really tell what you have, but look at the shave wiki

It sounds like a "single ring", but could be several other models as well.

Single ring on the left, all these razors come apart with the bottom being a shaft that unscrews from a threaded rod connected to the top.

the reason I didn't provide a picture is because I do not have a razor. My question was is there a particular name for that type of razor? For example the one piece is called a TTO, and there are 2 piece and 3 piece razors. My question was is this early gillette called something different? While it is a 3 piece, it is a different kind of 3 piece. Thanks!

do you mean such a type of razor? where one head part is connectec with the handle?

I think the OP is referring to the different way the top plate connects to the handle .... some have a very short threaded shaft with the handle being one piece that is seperate from the bottom plate, while others have a top plate that has a very long shaft that is threaded on the end and that goes through the bottom plate that has a hollow tube portion of the handle attached to it with the connecting part of the handle being a short threaded shaft.

So his question is ... do these different types have another name that defines the different way they are designed??

was exactly what I was trying to ask in the first place. And the reason for the question was if I was going to attempt to purchase one of that "type" I don't know the buzz word to use asking for such a model. Regards,

I believe this is what he is talking about.....

you can see the difference in how the 3 pieces go together.

I have the same problem when trying to explain differences between 3 piece razors. It gets tiresome spelling it out each time, and would be nice if the authorities on the subject (eh, that would be us, no?) would decide on a style name.

I thought there might be some type of jargon such as tto that I could use as a shortcut to describe it as such. Regarding the two pictures above I was in fact referring to the top picture in, I guess nickel. I haven't seen one like the gold one. Looks interesting however. Thanks again!

I was only using the second photo as a reference to show the two different designs used.

As far as I can tell they are all simply referred to as 2 piece or 3 piece razors or by the particular model name such as "New" or "Old type" or whatever name it is.

I hope this was helpful
