Help Please.Super Adjustable Silo Doors - One not closing completely

Hello, Gentlemen

I have a 1972 long handled Gillette Super Adjustable. I haven't used it in many months and took it out today. I noticed that one of the silo doors does not close completely and evenly when closed. It does close evenly when I manually push it down after closing. Is there an easy fix for this? Am I better off just leaving it?

I appreciate any advice.

Best Regards,

Jason

Are they even when fully open? Something is slightly kinked somewhere.

The doors appear to sit even when in the opened position. When I close them, the one door stays slightly above the other (pic below). When I push the door that is not completely closed down, it clicks back up and then appears to sit even with the opposing door.

Something is off. I had a slim and a flare tip with this issue. Make sure the endcaps are at right angles to the blade tang. Also, open the doors slowly till they just barely start to catch the bars to open but not and see if any has more clearance than the others. The other thing is check that none of the attachment linkages on the doors are bent inwards.

Thanks for the input, gentlemen. I guess I'll break out the magnifying glass and have a seriously close look in slow motion. This is my birth year razor and I want it to work perfectly.

I have seen this caused by one of the safety bars being bent downward. Best tool I have found is an old crapped out tech razor. Turn it upside down and clip one of its safety bars under the bent one. Now put a piece of cardboard against your handle to protect in and lever the bent bar back up. It'll make sense when you do it.

I have fixed a few old TTOs (no end caps, not adjustable) with misaligned doors, but I do not think the method would work here. Nemo taught me how to do it:

BTW, taking the razor apart did not help me fix the misalignment problem.

Agreed. I'm not inclined to disassemble the razor unless absolutely necessary. I'll have a closer look at the safety bars when I return from a brief business trip.

Hi, I am new here and noticed a lot of us seem to be having the same problems with the razors edge not lining up correctly in the adjustable razors. I could send it to Razor Emporium to be adjusted but as I have a few razors, it would be nice to be able to adjust these myself and there are a number of threads that try to explain how to do this. However, as a newbie, I think we need something that identifies the nomemclature for the different parts of the razor so we can visualize what people are saying. What is an end cap, blade tang, guard bar, hinge, press fitting, etc.. Maybe a photo with labels ?
Thanks

Hi...

From your photo it doesn't appear that there is a blade in the razor. I have a Fat Boy that does the same thing until I put the blade in. Then the doors close even.

I reckon you've already tried this but thought it might be worth a shot.

That is a great suggestion, i will see if i can get started on that and put it in the Shave wiki.

If you could do that, it would be a huge help as everybody could then know what part they are trying to convey and all could be on the same page. Even if you make up some parts names it would be a help.
Maybe a drawing ? Also, please let me know where to find it when done. I look forward to it and will help steer others I see to it so the word spreads. By the way, I have looked all over the web and nothing is out there.
Gillette Fat Boy Parts Nomenclature. Nice !!:001_smile

Actually, you reckon too much of me. Embarrassingly, I have not tried closing it with a blade in it. That will be my next move...:001_unsur Thanks.

I started a thread for members to help out by naming the razor parts and then after all the information is gathered i will start a Wiki for all users/members to contribute to it.
