What's new

Help me pick my Christmas brush ...

Hey all, my wife is wanting to get me a new shaving brush for Christmas and I'm looking for help to make the best purchase possible.

Right now my wife and I both use an omega pro boar brush... we both love it and it will always be in my shave den. Having said that were also ready for a little change of pace and are looking for a nice badger in addition to the boar.

I have 3 brushes that have caught my eye and I'm looking for some advice as to which would work best for us. So far I'm considering-

1- Simpsons chubby 2 in best
2- Shavemac custom finest grade 19mm knot with 45mm loft with the chubby style handle
3- Salive Row 22-24mm knot silvertip

The brush will be mainly for me (face lather with soaps and creams) but I want my wife to be able to enjoy it as well (mainly bowl lathered creams) lol.

What brush would you guys recommend out of those 3? Also open to suggestions if another brush not listed would be good.

If there are still any semogue LEs left I would grab one of those. Of the ones you listed - they are all quite different.

Shavemac's Finest grade of hair is ultra soft, but I would go for a larger knot (say 22-24mm and 48-50mm loft).

A chubby 2 in best is a fan favorite (I own one but it doesn't see much use) and is a rather large knot but certainly works for face lathering. Slightly less soft that the shavemac finest, but significantly more density and backbone.

No experience with the SRs, but I think that they use Shavemac's silvertip grade of hair, which is similar to the finest grade.

Hope that helps :thumbup1:

Thanks for the reply and the suggestion Harvitz. Haven't seen that semogue before, looks like a really nice brush!

I agree that all the brushes that I'm considering are all really different from each other lol. I think thats what is making it so hard to make a decision. I may just give my wife the list of brushes (with the semogue added :thumbup1:) and just let it be a surprise.

Anyone know if I'm way off in thinking the chubby 2 would make a good face lather brush while still being a big enough knot to lather legs?

Hmm, I could probably get the custom shavemac and the semogue for the same price as the chubby 2....

I face lather exclusively and have no problems with the chubby 2 for size and I don't have a bug mug.

I think you would be fine with it.

I face lather soaps almost exclusively and my GF has stolen my Chubby 2 two band several times to leg lather. Its a nice big brush, but its not ridiculously large.
