Help me pick a Brush Please

Hi All,
I have recently delved myself into the world of wet shaving. I have been working on my lather techniques and after some OK results, I believe my brush is to blame. It is a rather cheap one I bought in Germany for if I remember correctly 15-20 Euros.

I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan and whereever I buy from needs to ship to an APO Address. I've been looking at Amazon, West Coast Shaving and Classic Shaving.

Please give me a few recommendations. Price really isn't too much of a concern up till maybe $200

Thanks,
Shawn

Hey Shawn welcome, and first, way to go serving your country, I got two close buddies that are Marines. As for the brush, depends on what you look for, if you want just a soft, gentle brush, you can get a silvertip, by any reputable brand. Silvertip requires a bit more effort to load with soap for instance, but is good with cream, on the other hand, boar works great on soaps. It depends on what you prefer, try one of each, some like pure badger, as it has good backbone and exfoilates well too...I use a Simpsons Beaufort B4 myself, and its great with soaps or creams.

After looking through Amazon's 900+ shaving brushes (and holders) I think I may have settled on one, but figured I'd ask the pros their opinion. the one I'm looking at is the Colonel Conk Pure Badger Bristle Travel Shave Brush #2190. How does this one fair?

Thanks,
Shawn

You might get the Simpson Case recommended to you, instead, in best badger. There's a pure badger version available at the Shoebox Shave Shop for less - well, I suppose "available" isn't the right word, since it's out of stock....

You have just got a Case recommended to you. It is the perfect multi purpose brush in my opinion, and were it not for the Wee Scot, it would be the only brush I ever need.

Trust me, I'm an expert.

Oh yeah. The Superior Shave is offering free shipping on the brush.

Man, I wish badgers "did it" for me, because it's tempting to have a small-medium-large set of a Wee Scot, Case, and a Duke.

with your price range, you have many options, but it really depends on your preference.

if you like large-ish brushes, I'd go for this one: http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/sipopl8twoba.html

if you like them a little smaller (like i do), I'd go for this one: http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/sich1intwoba.html

those are truly top of the line.

If you want to spend a bit less and still get a superb brush, I'd go for this one:

You can also find these brushes at www.westcoastshaving.com and from several other vendors.

I really like the brushes that Simpsons is making right now. They seem, IMO, to lather easier than Rooney brushes do.

There is a world of brushes out there and you will get many recommendations, but these would be mine. Of course, it really all depends on your preferences, but I think the above 3 are all great badger hair brushes that would supply you with a decade plus of happy shaving.

good luck! I'm sure this brush purchase will not be your last.

I think i'm going to go with the Case. I like it's travel capabilities.

I think i'm going to go with the Case.

The Case won't disappoint you. I got it hoping to use it as a travel brush. But after one use, it became my daily brush for over a year and completely absolved me of feeling like I needing to acquire another brush. Even after just recently (about a month ago) picking up a Simpson's Emperor 2, which is a much more expensive brush, I still think the Case is an excellent brush. At this point, I'm still undecided about which I like better. All that to say, the Case is a great brush and you should be happy with the purchase.
