Help me ID a super speed?

I just bought a super speed from ebay. It has a black handle and is in its original packaging. The date code on it is D4, which I originally thought was for 1958 but now I'm thinking it may be a 1983 razor? A little help is much appreciated.

Shoot I was going to ask in the original post what everyone thought of the razor as I'm still new to vintage razors and don't really know what's a good deal, what are the razors everyone wants, etc...

Sooo, what does everyone think of the razor? We already have one opinion but I'd like some others. Currently I've been using an HD with derby blades but I wanted to try an old gillette to see if I could get a more comfortable shave. I switched to DE shaving to reduce irritation and, while the HD has definitely done this, I still have just a little bit.

Fair price? That was an amazing price!!

I have been watching sealed black handle Superspeeds the last few weeks, and most seem to average about $30 + shipping.

As for the quality of the shave, all Superspeeds are wonderful shavers. There isn't a Twist to Open razor made today that can come anywhere close to touching a Vintage Gillette in build quality.

the one MAJOR downside to being 27 when it comes to collecting these awesome pieces is that my birth year razor options are a black handle ss or a super adjustable with the plastic bottom. not that these razors aren't great b/c i love the ones i have but i think it'd be cooler if i could find a mint fatboy or for those that were lucky to be born during the toggle years, to get their hands on a birth year toggle. just saying. cool avatar btw

as awesome as that would be, hang on to that little guy. i have a 78 (as close as i can get) that i got recently off the bay that i really like. i also have a 56 flair tip that's my mom's birth year razor. the 78's a cool razor for me because that's the year of the mustang my late father left for me.

i've started to make cool little connections with these razors so enjoy your first black-handle.
